Webuild, completed coverage of Capodichino metro station in Naples

NAPLES (ITALPRESS) – With today’s final launch, the metal roof of the future Capodichino metro station in Naples, built by Webuild, has been completed. A further step towards the conclusion of a work that will be crucial in the context of metropolitan city transport. When the stop is inaugurated, Naples will be one of the first cities in the world to have a metro line that will directly connect the three major hubs of city mobility: port, airport and railway network, including high speed. Present to witness the final launch were the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, and the councilor for Infrastructure, Mobility and Civil Protection of the Municipality of Naples, Edoardo Cosenza, welcomed by those responsible for the orders of the Naples metropolitan lines for Webuild. The station, which will be managed by ANM (Azienda Napoletana Mobilità), is an integral part of the extension project of Line 1 which currently has an 18 km long network for 19 stations, and is built by Webuild which leads a consortium with Moccia Irme on behalf of Metropolitana di Napoli SpA and the Municipality of Naples. The metal roof of the future station – measuring 65×53 metres, weighing 450 tonnes and 8 meters high from the road level – is inspired by the shape of a hangar and is made up of tubular profiles that make it similar to a large steel spider web.

Once the installation of the entire metal plate has been completed, the covering of the roof will begin, the completion of which is expected by the summer, with prefabricated reinforced concrete tiles (ashlars) and glass frames which will allow the future station to be illuminated by making the most of the natural light which will take on colours, directions and dimensions depending on the different phases of the day, creating plays and effects of light. The project of the Capodichino station, designed by Ivan Harbor of Studio RSHP, is inspired by the Pozzo di San Patrizio, 54 meters deep and built in Orvieto in the 16th century. The station, in the areas that will be open to the public, has a circular plan with an internal diameter of approximately 33 meters and reaches approximately 50 meters in depth and is a single open space with 8 central elevators and four helical staircases that go up along the walls and which reach an open atrium at street level. The custom-designed elevators represent the first construction in Italy with a maximum level of seismicity. The surface area of the station will also be completely redesigned upon completion of the works, with covered pedestrian paths, green areas, car parks and new access roads. The Webuild Group, which has built 14,140 kilometers of railways and subways worldwide, has been present in Campania since the 1980s with important works such as the Naples-Afragola high-speed station, designed by star architect Zaha Hadid, and is currently working on Lot 1A for the section between Battipaglia and Romagnano of the new Salerno-Reggio Calabria high-speed line, as well as on four sections of the Naples-Bari high-speed/capacity railway line, which at the end of the works will allow the two cities to be joined in 2 hours, compared to around 4 currently. In Naples, the Webuild Group has built a total of 14 metro stations, of which 10 on Line 1, including some of the most iconic “Art Stations” such as the award-winning Toledo, but also the Università, Dante, Museo and Materdei stops. Webuild is currently also building line 7 in the city with the Monte Sant’Angelo and Parco San Paolo stops, the San Pasquale station on line 6 and the doubling of the Cumana railway line for a stretch of approximately 5 kilometers between the Dazio and Construction sites. The works being carried out by Webuild in Campania and Naples involve 2,300 people, including direct and third-party personnel, and around 2,500 supplier companies involved over time and are among the 19 projects that the Group is carrying out in Southern Italy, with almost 5,450 people already at work, both direct and third party. To support the implementation of these projects and, more generally, to meet the needs linked to the country’s infrastructural development, Webuild has also launched the “Cantiere Lavoro Italia” program which aims to train and hire 10 thousand people by 2026, of of which over 80% in Southern Italy. – Webuild Group press office photo – (ITALPRESS). vbo/com 19-Apr-24 17:46 .
