Techfind Serie A1, Play-out – O.ME.PS Battipaglia wins over E-Work Faenza in Race-2

O.ME.PS Battipaglia wins 69-56 against E-Work Faenza, postponing the verdict to Game-3. The first half of the opening quarter travels at a high pace and with two teams ready to match each other: Dixon (24 points and 11 rebounds) and Tagliamento (10 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals) give the advantage to the Faenza team, while for the bells they think about it Johnson (16 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals), Ferrari Calabro (12 points with 4/7 from three, 5 rebounds and 4 steals) and Yurkevichus (7-7); subsequently, Battipaglia tries to escape thanks to baskets from numbers 21 and 40, but Faenza – with triples from Cvijanovic (15 points) and Peresson – inflicts a partial score of 0-11 which allows them to reach 11-18 after 10′ of game. The team trained by coach Dragonetto has no intention of disappointing their fans, so they roll up their sleeves and dragged by Johnson, Smorto (15 points) and Ferrari Calabro turns the game around taking a 25-20 lead; Dixon stops the bleeding with a mid-range jumper, but in the following minutes E-Work’s raids are promptly canceled out by the home team’s shots. The break built on the Johnson-Potolicchio axis pushes O.ME.PS to a three-possession advantage over their rivals, who however find a three-point play from Cvijanovic that sends everyone to the locker rooms at 35-29.

After almost 3′ of fasting, the second half was opened by a triple from Ferrari Calabro, who was subsequently able to repeat it from behind the arc, thus giving Battipaglia the maximum advantage in the match at +13; Dixon once again shakes up Faenza, but his basket is canceled out by Domenger’s bomb (10 points) followed by support from Yurkevichus (10 points and 12 rebounds) to make it 48-33 halfway through the third quarter. The 0-7 break by the Tagliamento-Dixon tandem halves the disadvantage for E-Work, with 2′ to go Smorto’s basket arrives – the last emotion of the third period – which makes it 50-40 at the half hour mark. The number 28 from Battipaglia continues in its personal duel with its rivals scoring +12, on the other side it is Franceschelli and Dixon who approach the possibility of a new comeback with a partial of 2-10 which brings Faenza to -4; in a match full of partials and counterpartials, it was the home team’s turn to impose themselves by scoring eight points in a row with the names of Yurkevichus, Smorto and Domenger, re-establishing the hierarchies (62-50). Cvijanovic and Seka get on the scoresheet for their respective teams, then the protagonists become Dixon and Domenger, with Battipaglia’s number 55 also repelling Faenza’s last attack and closing the score at 69-56.
