Calabria Region, Varia di Palmi, Mattiani: “Scientific Committee appointed. Section has been prepared on the Regional Council and Calabria Region website dedicated to Varia”

Making the Varia Festival of Palmi, already an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, become a symbolic festival of the Calabria Region was a commitment that the Regional Councilor Giuseppe Mattiani had undertaken.
An objective that sees him constantly engaged.
In fact, after the approval of regional law n. 32 of 02.08.2023, proposed by him, with which the Palmi Varia Festival was recognized as a “Cultural Heritage and Great Regional Event”, step by step the Calabria Region is implementing the provisions contained therein.
In fact, after the funding provided for the 2023 edition of €70 thousand and the commitment of the Calabria Film Commission, which is making a short film for the Varia di Palmi in recent weeks, the Committee was appointed by Decree of the President of the Regional Council Scientific Committee which will be composed of the lawyer. Gina Aquino, Director of the “Promotion of Calabria and its Strategic Assets – Entertainment and Major Events – Territorial Marketing” Sector, by Dr. Fabio Scavo, in charge of an organizational position with highly professional content in sector 2 “Culture Cultural Activities Libraries Museums Theaters AFAM”, by Dr. Maria Fedele, former Councilor of the Municipality of Taurianova with responsibilities for Culture, Immigration, Youth Policies, Training and Work, Relations with Associations, by Prof. Giovanni Carbone, University Lecturer and by the Lawyer. Regional Councilor Giuseppe Mattiani, promoter of the Law under review, was particularly satisfied:
“The Palmi Varia Festival, in addition to now being a World Heritage Site, is first of all a Calabrian Heritage and, as such, it is also a duty for the Calabria Region to contribute to its protection, safeguard, promotion and transmission. The objectives of the Law approved by the Regional Council are precisely these. A Calabria region today fully aware of being able to boast of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I am proud that all this happened thanks to my legislative initiative.”
On the newly appointed Scientific Committee:
“The appointment of the Scientific Committee also goes in this direction. Figures of absolute competence have been selected and appointed. The Tourism and Culture Departments have indicated as members the Director of the Tourism Sector and Dr. Fabio Scavo who have already shown great attention to the Palmi Varia Festival this year. Completing the composition of the Scientific Committee are personalities of undisputed ability and competence: Prof. Giovanni Carbone, University Lecturer, Dr. Fedele, Councilor of the Municipality of Taurianova, Capital of the Book 2024, with responsibility for Culture and the Lawyer. Anna Pizzimenti. My congratulations go to them. I am sure, they will make an important contribution to the path of safeguarding, valorising, protecting and promoting the Varia Festival in compliance with the inspiring principles of the Law which have their roots in the 2003 UNESCO Convention and its operational directives. In fact, one of the tasks of the Scientific Committee is to approve the program of interventions through which the Calabria Region intends to contribute to the promotion, valorisation and protection of the Palmi Varia Festival, but also to evaluate the compliance of the initiatives proposed in this sense. from the Municipality of Palmi. Aspects that have already been taken into consideration by the Calabria Region for the 2023 edition with the disbursement of the substantial contribution of €70,000. Tasks which from today will be carried out by the appointed body.”.
Other important news is the opening of a special section on the institutional website of the Regional Council of Calabria:
“Among the measures contemplated by Regional Law n. 32/2023, art. 3, paragraph 4, there was the one which provided for the establishment on the institutional website of the Calabria Region and of the Regional Council of Calabria of a specific section, called Festa della Varia di Palmi, where to indicate the promotion, valorisation and protection activities and publicize the initiatives promoted and implemented. Well, even in this case the rule was fully implemented. In fact, a specific section has already been prepared on the Institutional website of the Regional Council, on the website of the Calabria Region – Tourism Department and on the tourist information website of the Calabria Region (Calabria Extraordinaria). Soon everything will be online. Another concrete measure that goes in the desired direction.”.
Councilor Mattiani has no doubts about the future:
“We are truly doing an extraordinary job of valorising our resources which, I can say, perhaps has no equal in the recent past. The Council, the Regional Council, our General Directors, the Managers and all the staff of the Departments are making their utmost commitment. A clear example of this is the attention paid to the Palmi Varia Festival which, together with the other wonderful Calabrian traditions and our scenic beauty, can act as great tourist attractors. A unique and priceless heritage and we must be fully aware of it. It is along this path that we must continue to work, despite the many difficulties that we have to face every day.”
