Monza closes the 2023 budget in the red by 60 million euros

The Monza closed the financial statements at 31 December 2023 with a loss of 60.3 million eurosslightly decreasing compared to the 65.4 million euros recorded in the 2022 budget.

In the financial year to 31 December 2023, the turnover of the Brianza company more than doubled, reaching 68.3 million euros, while costs amounted to 134.3 million euros (up compared to 105.5 million in 2022). It should be remembered that the 2023 financial year for Monza is the first totally linked to Serie A, while the 2022 financial year still had six months of the 2021/22 Serie B within it. The club’s net assets as of 31 December 2023 were equal to 20 million, compared to 18.2 million in 2022, thanks to the interventions of the ownership in terms of payments.

Monza budget 2023 – Revenues of the Fininvest club

Overall, Monza recorded 68.3 million euros in revenues in 2023. The largest item is that relating to TV rights, equal to 38.8 million euros, while income from sponsorships amounted to 15.6 million of which 10.6 million deriving from the advertising concession awarded to Digitalia ’08, a company of the Fininvest group. Among other revenues, stadium revenues amounted to 5.7 million.

Revenues item by item:

  • Race revenue: 5.7 million;
  • Revenue from sponsors, advertising and sales: 16.7 million;
  • Revenue from TV rights: 38.8 million;
  • Revenue from player management: 2.5 million of which 0 from capital gains;
  • Other revenues: 4.6 million;
  • TOTAL: 68.3 million.

Monza budget 2023 – The club’s costs

The budgeted costs for Monza amounted to 134.3 million euros. In detail, most of the costs are linked to personnel expenses, equal to 77.9 million of which 56.1 million as wages and salaries. Another notable dimension was reached by the costs for sports infrastructures which involved 5.8 million, (+38% on the previous year) and which shows in terms of management costs and amortisation, the considerable effort to adapt/ expansion placed in recent years in the
infrastructure.

The costs item by item:

  • Costs for services: 15.1 million euros;
  • Staff costs: 77.9 million of which 56.1 million as wages and salaries;
  • Depreciation and write-downs: 27.2 million euros;
  • Other costs: 14.1 million;
  • TOTAL: 134.3 million.

Monza budget 2023: result, debts and net worth

The difference between turnover and costs was thus negative for 66 million. The pre-tax result was negative for 66.9 million, while the net result was negative for 60.3 million. Net equity at 31 December 2022 thus amounted to 20 million, compared to 18.2 million in 2022, thanks to the ownership’s interventions in terms of payments.

Debts at 31 December 2022 amounted to a total of 82 million euros compared to 66.8 million at 31 December 2022, with growth linked to debts for the transfer market in particular. As regards tax debts, the Brianza company has paid a total of 9.7 million in instalments. The net financial position, given the absence of financial debts, was positive for 1.7 million as of 31 December 2023.
