Since the beginning of 2023 there have been ten victims at work in the Piacenza area. Worrying numbers that must be stopped through training, safety and controls. At the basis of the work of the Piacenza Building School lower the risk within construction sites.

“Unfortunately, achieving zero risk is impossible but by investing in training and initiatives to support workers and businesses we can get closer” comments Matteo Raffi, president of the Piacenza Building School in presenting the Esecard: identity card for workers on construction sites in also disposition of the inspection bodies.

“The Esecard was created to list all the compulsory training courses carried out by the worker and to notify the latter of the various deadlines – explains Raffi -. It is also extended to inspectors to facilitate control work.” The Esecard will come into operation as early as Monday 22 April for all employees in companies registered with the Building Fund in Piacenza. “Today it is limited to those who have completed courses in the construction school, but given that we believe a lot in this project we hope to be able to extend this initiative to all companies, including at a national level” concludes the president.

The importance of technology for workplace safety

“When we talk about deaths at work we forget the importance of using technology. This card equipped with QR code goes in the right direction, but it would be important for video surveillance to be used more frequently – highlights Alberto Gardina, director of thelabor Inspectorate of Piacenza -. Through a single operations center it would be possible to control multiple construction sites and it would be a good step forward because even today we are paying too high a price in terms of human lives”.

Satisfaction with the initiative also on the part of theLocal health authority of Piacenza: “This card can facilitate both workers who must necessarily undertake various training courses and inspectors who at the same time must guarantee compliance with the legislation” the words of the manager Giuseppe Sergi. Marco Efori, general secretary of Filctem Cgil Piacenza, also participated in the presentation conference: “We mourned yet another death at work, something that should never happen – he states -. Ensuring training and safety is essential.”

What is Esecard?

The Esecard is the “identity card” of the courses attended at the Piacenza Building School; it identifies the worker through name, surname and tax code and, thanks to scanning the QR code on the card, it will be possible to view the history of the training attended at our institution in the cloud.

HOW DO YOU GET IT?

The Esecard is free for construction companies registered in Cassa Edile di Piacenza and for their employees but can also be provided to all other categories of subjects involved in construction sites (artisans, self-employed workers, freelancers, etc.), via established criteria by our Board of Directors.

WHAT IS IT FOR?

The Esecard allows you to have all the training carried out at our institution enclosed in one card; in case of control by the supervisory bodies, the Esecard will allow you to show the history of the courses attended without having to bring all the training to the construction site with the risk of it being lost.

The Esecard and the control system

The Board of Directors of Ente Scuola Edile Piacenza has decided to make this innovative tool available to the inspection bodies operating in our territory.

By simply scanning the QR code, the Inspector will have access to the data relating to the worker, being sure of avoiding possible counterfeiting and verifying the worker’s training situation in real time. It will be sufficient to activate the User ID and password for the individual Inspectors, thus guaranteeing the protection of data and possible traceability of the activity of the Inspectors of the individual Institutes.

The objective of the experimentation is to represent a virtuous local system, but also above all to provide an example at a national level of how the system of checks on construction sites could evolve and above all of how to use and implement a national “Card” capable of summarize their training path for each worker.
