The splendid rose garden in Rome reopens and it’s free: all the info on the dates and times when you can visit it

We are almost there. On the occasion of Christmas in Rome, the capital’s enchanting rose garden will once again be open to visitors, where you can admire over a thousand roses with an irresistible charm and enjoy a breathtaking view. A place to walk at least once in your life!

@Municipality of Rome

On April 21st one of the most evocative places in the capital reopens to the public: the municipal rose garden, which lies on the slopes of the Aventine, just above the Circus Maximus. It is a real paradise for all flower lovers.

This space hosts, in fact, a collection of approximately 12,000 specimens of botanical roses, some of which are very ancient, coming from all over the world: from the Far East to South Africa, from Old Europe to New Zealand, passing through America .

Walking through the avenues you come across the iconic Damascene roses, also present in ancient times in Paestum and Pompeii and still used today in perfumes, or the famous red Gallic roses, considered sacred by the Persians. In the rose garden of Rome there are also primordial species, or “botanical roses”, dating back 40 million years ago.

Among the most bizarre and fascinating we find the Rosa Chinensis Virdiflora, with green petals, the Rosa Chinensis Mutabilis, which changes color as the days go by and the Rosa Foetida, which – as its name suggests – gives off an unpleasant smell.

What makes this place – which in the spring period transforms into a riot of shades and scents – even more magical is the spectacular view it offers over the capital.
