If on the one hand there is a lot of chatter about the reclamation of the former industrial area (assuming it is a real reclamation), on the other the silence reigns supreme in the Passovecchio area, so no one has ever noticed the proliferation of new waste disposal plants. some waste.

The continuous research (obviously always and only in Crotone) by large industrial giants to present highly polluting and impactful projects in an already highly compromised territory seems unstoppable.

In short, there is no end, to the point of thinking that this strip of land is truly offered to a new holocaust, the environmental one.

As is known, in Crotone there are three biomass power plants, a heat destroyer, a gas turbine power plant, the largest MSW and hazardous waste landfill in southern Italy in the Columbra area, the reservoir in the Farina district and industrial waste lying under the road surfaces and buildings of the city; in the former industrial area there is a large accumulation containing approximately one million tons of waste of all kinds, dangerous and non-dangerous, radioactive (now the subject of strong discussions and controversies due to a partial and not very exhaustive clean-up that will be carried out), parks wind farms built everywhere, even near the beaches.

The statistical data processed by the Bank of Italy of Catanzaro year after year and by the Polos report of the local Chamber of Commerce highlight negative indices for businesses and commercial activities of all kinds, highlighting their economic-financial poverty in the commercial and artisan sectors and what little industrial remains. Worrying is the depopulation of the Pythagorean city and the entire province and the aging of the population, the flight of our students to other university cities. Furthermore, the total lack of road and health infrastructure makes the territory increasingly isolated from the rest of the country. The waste disposal plants in Crotone have effectively produced a wild energy district that constantly pollutes the area and is putting the health of citizens at serious risk (the Sentieri study provides alarming data).

The A2A Company, as is well known, through its subsidiary A2A Ambiente, has acquired 100% of TecnoA, a leading company in central and southern Italy in the treatment of industrial waste.

The plant hub, located in Crotone, is of great importance at a national level and is authorized to process approximately 300,000 tonnes of industrial waste per year.

We learn from several fronts that the A2A group is preparing an expansion of the structure which will have an industrial waste treatment capacity of almost 900,000 tons, i.e. a tripling of the annual activity compared to today, between inerting and chemical-physical treatment for waste liquids, hospital products and a plant dedicated exclusively to the energy recovery of industrial waste.

As stated in the introduction, an already highly compromised territory can no longer undergo investments that further compromise the surrounding environment. Therefore, the undersigned, in my capacity as City Councilor and Council Group Leader of Stanchi dei Soliti, presented a question to the mayor on 15 April 2024 to obtain certain and official information, in order to reassure the citizens living in an area that is too polluted and already abundantly consumed.
