CATANZARO Illicit management of waste and pollution of surface waters and soil: this is the hypothesis of a crime prosecuted with the intervention of the local police, in a neighborhood south of Catanzaro which saw the criminal seizure of the area. The operation, coordinated by Commander Vincenzo Ruocco, was carried out by the Environmental Police unit, directed by Lieutenant Colonel Salvatore Tarantino, and by the Soverato Coast Guard maritime district office, directed by Lieutenant Leo Spina. On-site surveys and checks confirmed the presence of special hazardous waste on an uncovered area of approximately one thousand square meters composed of natural soil, without waterproofing and exposed to the risk of infiltration of rainwater.
In the same area, in the absence of disposal systems, and in the vicinity of civilian homes, waste was deposited in an uncontrolled manner, some of which were labeled as harmful-toxic and flammable, mixed together, deriving from demolition and construction. The person responsible has been referred to the Judicial Authority.
