Everything is ready for the City of Messina Trophy with more than 300 participants

The third was officially presented in the oval room of Palazzo Zanca City of Messina Trophy – Carmelo La Corte Memorial, scheduled for Sunday (April 21). The 10km national “bronze level” event, organized by the TRUST and organized by Running Messina with the collaboration ofthe Municipality of Messinais valid as the third round of the 29th Sicilian Racing Grand Prix 2024and for the Regional Individual 10km Masters Championship. The race will coincide with the arrival in the city of the Strait of the fourth RUN4HOPEthe relay that started on April 13th in all Italian regions alongside AIL against leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

It was Carmela Gasbarro, secretary of Messina Running, who illustrated all the details of the sporting event which will see the athletes from the nine Sicilian provinces as protagonists, bringing the greetings of the president Santi Giacobbe: “We have always put a lot of effort into it and we are very happy to have reached the third edition of the City of Messina Trophy – said Gasbarro – This year’s event is dedicated to Carmelo La Cortea coach who gave his life to athletics and to children, also linking himself to the charity relay race. We have reached 310 members, but we still expect an increase in the number of participants in the last few days.”

A sports celebration

“This is a very heartfelt event – said the municipal councilor for sports policies, Massimo Finocchiaro -, a sports festival which represents that inclusion that we hope will be increasingly concrete and which for us truly has a very high value”. For Francesco Giorgio, trustee of CONI Messina, “the City of Messina Trophy, being from this year the La Corte Memorial, remembers a very important figure of Messina athletics”. Instead, the president of FIDAL Messina, Nunzio Scolaro, recalled that the race represents “lat maximum expression in terms of recognition that our Committee can give.”

The program

The bib and race pack can be collected by the athletes on Saturday from 5.30pm to 7.00pm, and on Sunday from 8am in the entrance hall of Palazzo Zanca. The jury and competitors will meet at 8.30 in Piazza Unione Europea, the official start for all categories is at 10am. Certified and approved route by the FIDAL judges, to be repeated four times plus an initial half ring for a total of 10kmwhich winds along Via Garibaldi between Via Cannizzaro and Viale Boccetta, and arrives in Piazza Unione Europea. At the end, prizes will be awarded to the first man and woman to reach the finish line and the best three classified M/F Students, Junior/Promesse and Senior/Master. For the Regional Individual Master Championship, the medal will be awarded to the first three classified in each category registered with affiliated companies in Sicily. The first ones will then be given the new Regional Champion shirt.
