Intervention by the Carabinieri Bomb Squad

The Carabinieri of the Maida station, following a report from private citizens, found an artillery grenade cal. 75 mm HE of Italian nationality dating back to the Second World War.

The grenade came complete with fuze and explosive charge. After securing the area on site, the intervention of the bomb squad of the Catanzaro Provincial Command was requested and the judicial authority was informed and ordered the seizure and simultaneous safe destruction of the grenade.

Immediately, with due caution, it was made safe, removed, transported to a nearby quarry in the Granci di Maida area and blasted by specialized personnel.

Today’s episode, in addition to confirming the constant presence of the Army’s patrols in the area, further underlines the great promptness of response in situations of potential danger to the safety of the population, highlighting the constant synergy between the various branches of the Institution.
