The tub disappears and reappears, after two days, with a nice heavy letter in a closed envelope next to it: inside a fine of 70.15 euros, imposed by the Municipality, because the gray bin of a 40-year-old doctor from Cagliari resident in via Chiano, SC, was was found in another street and on a different day than the one foreseen by the waste collection calendar. But he, so respectful of waste collection that he hung a copy of the calendar with the days on his front door, doesn’t agree: “Every morning in via Giudice Chiano we witness a pitiful sight, tubs carried away by the wind and broken everywhere , citizens who have to go looking for their tubs and if they are lucky they find them, otherwise they either lose them or find them destroyed”, the forty-year-old tells our editorial team. “I recently received a fine because I couldn’t find the dry waste tub and I wasn’t able to communicate it to the eco-center in a timely manner and, therefore, my tub that ended up somewhere was rightly reported by the authorities. When a tub disappeared for the umpteenth time, as always, I went to the eco-centre to declare the loss and the employee in charge told me that sooner or later they will make you pay for all these broken and lost tubs”.
A further mockery, in addition to the damage: “I felt offended because beyond the damage of having to queue for hours, beyond the damage of having to go hunting every morning for a tub that may have ended up who knows where, I must also feel say that sooner or later I will have to pay for the disappearance of an object that I take out of my house and for which I therefore cannot have any responsibility at night. To my complaints about this, the answer was that during windy days it would be better for me not to throw away the rubbish, which is practically impossible as in my street the windy days in which a tub can fly are higher than 50%. To all this must be added the aesthetic and hygienic damage for us citizens. I am not able to say whether there are better solutions than this for separate waste collection, as I do not have the skills, but as a citizen I feel like expressing all my discomfort”.
