A relaxation room equipped for patients in the oncology department of the Mazzini hospital in Teramo and their families. It is the latest fundraising project carried out by the association “Morena, a butterfly forever” Ets of Bellante, which in these years of activity has donated material worth over 100 thousand euros between Oncology, Radiotherapy and the Mazzini hospice. The initiative was presented at a press conference at BIM in the presence of the general director of the Teramo Local Health Authority, Maurizio Di Giosia, together with the director of Oncology Katia Cannita, the mayor of Bellante John Melchiorthe president of the Bim of Teramo Marco Di Nicolathe psychologist Lisa Reginelli And the nutritionist Gabriella Scarpone representing the association and the president of the Pro Loco of Bellante, Aldo Valentini.

The project that the association is currently carrying out involves the creation of a “relaxation” space for patients and their families in the Oncology department of the Mazzini hospital in Teramo, which will be equipped with a reading area, television, interview room to guarantee a welcoming and private area for patients and their families, separate from the space dedicated to treatment. Bim also contributes to the project with its own funding.

Talking about humanization in healthcare – declares the general director of the Teramo Local Health Authority Maurizio Di Giosiait means talking about a new way of understanding treatment, not just focused on the disease but on the patient as a whole. It is therefore essential to also take care of the physical and relational environment in which the patient is treated, definitively affirming the principle of the centrality of the patient. It is with this objective that we intend to create a relaxation room in Oncology that can allow patients to listen to music, read a book and also talk freely with family members in a different treatment space. It is now well established that the way in which the patient and family members live and perceive the experience of the disease is influenced both by clinical, medical and professional factors, and by elements of another nature, such as treatment spaces. We therefore thank the president of Bim Marco Di Nicola and the association “Morena una butterfly per semper” and its president Giovanni Signorile for having accepted the proposal to support us”.

A truly worthy initiative, which the Consortium has chosen to support with its own donation – explains the president of the Bim of Teramo Marco Di Nicola -, given the very important objective that the association pursues with this project: to improve the quality of life and care of cancer patients, for ever better assistance in the area, focused on the overall needs of the patient”.

Applause for the incessant activity of the president of the association Giovanni Signorile – says the mayor of Bellante John Melchior –, with this initiative we contribute significantly to improving the quality of life of cancer patients and their families, also trying to eliminate as much as possible the “pilgrimage of the patient” who goes for treatment outside because he does not find adequate and sufficient services in the area”.

Since 2018, the association has been funding a psychological and nutritional assistance service for cancer patients in the local oncology center of Casalena, making a psychologist and a nutritionist available (the service is completely free). Important projects also for the oncology department of San Salvatore dell’Aquila.

Much solidarity and great feedback also for the recent 4th Walk for Oncology organized in Bellante by the association; next appointment on May 18th in Roseto degli Abruzzi with a walk through the Borsacchio Reserve.
