Appointment for May 5th at the Centro Universo shopping center in Silvi

The dream of performing on the stage of the Zecchino d’Oro, accompanied by the Piccolo Coro dell’Antoniano directed by Sabrina Simoni, is ever closer for children from all over Italy: the casting for the next edition of the program continues and, in May, arrives in Umbria and Abruzzo.

There are three audition dates to mark on the calendar: Sunday 5 May the appointment is at the Centro Universo shopping center in Silvi, in the province of Teramo (Strada Statale 16, Km 432), while on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 May the auditions will move at the Emisfero Shopping Center in Perugia (Via Fiesole 1).

All children who want to try to fulfill their dream of participating in the 2024 edition of the Zecchino d’Oro can show up for the selections from 10.00 to 13.00 and from 14.00 to 18.00. Participation is free. Until the Thursday preceding the casting date it will be possible to register via the Zecchino d’Oro website by selecting the stage of interest. Even when applications are closed, it is possible to show up in person and try to participate in the selections, in particular between 5.00 pm and 6.00 pm. Each child will be able to prepare to sing by choosing their favorite song from the official casting playlist, available on the Piccolo Coro dell’Antoniano YouTube channel: a selection of Zecchino d’Oro classics and hits from the latest editions.

From the beginning of the singing event to today, 15 children from Umbria and 8 from Abruzzo have participated in the Zecchino d’Oro. The last victory for a song sung by an Umbrian girl, Alyssia Palombo, dates back to 2018, when “La Rosa e il Bambino” won. More recent, however, is the participation of an interpreter from Abruzzo, Susanna Marchetti, with the song “Il mondo alla capo” in 2022.

“The event is a special experience for young aspiring soloists and their families, and certainly the casting itself becomes an opportunity to get in touch with other boys and girls, to sing their favorite songs and share a pinch of the magical world of the Zecchino d’Oro”, explains the director of the Piccolo Coro dell’Antoniano Sabrina Simoni.

“We like to be able to continue to tell and spread good values to all boys and girls with the Piccolo Coro and with music. If a single voice is rarely heard, together with many others it becomes a choir”, adds Br. Giampaolo Cavalli, Director of Antoniano.

The Zecchino d’Oro casting tour is carried out in collaboration with Wobinda Produzioni. The children who pass the first phase will then be heard again by Antoniano’s commission, and will then enter the second selection phase.

Who is Antoniano

Antoniano, today directed by Brother Giampaolo Cavalli, was born in 1954 in Bologna from the desire of Father Ernesto Caroli to put himself at the service of the most disadvantaged, while simultaneously enhancing the talent of the youngest. The distribution of hot meals at the canteen in Bologna and the support activities for the most needy are accompanied by the Zecchino d’Oro (1959) and the Piccolo Coro dell’Antoniano (1963): two realities born from the desire to spread values such as solidarity, hospitality, brotherhood and care for others and for the earth. Named in memory of its founder Mariele Ventre, the Piccolo Coro dell’Antoniano is today directed by Sabrina Simoni. Thanks to the activities of the Zecchino d’Oro, over the years it has been possible to support Antoniano’s numerous social projects and expand the network of Franciscan canteens which, in Italy and around the world, offer meals and care through the “Operation Bread” campaign. There are currently 20 canteens in the Peninsula, 1 in Syria, 3 in Ukraine and 1 in Romania. Music and solidarity also find space in the activities of the Therapeutic Center opened in Bologna in the 1980s, where, through a multidisciplinary approach, children with various fragilities are accompanied and supported to promote their physical and cognitive development.
