Emma Villas will play match 2 at home, at PalaEstra, on April 25th

It was a celebration last night at PalaEstra, with Emma Villas Siena gaining access to the Serie A2 playoff final for the second time in their history. The first time was in 2018, when the Sienese then faced Spoleto in the final round of the championship and qualified for the Super League.

Emma Villas Siena won the decisive game 3 of the semi-final against Porto Viro 3-1. He did it with a good game and overcoming an initial moment of difficulty, to the delight of the 1,250 spectators present at PalaEstra. The start of the blue and white team had not been the best, with Porto Viro having won the first set. Then there was the reaction of coach Gianluca Graziosi’s team who started to serve very well (in the end there were 6 winning serves from the locals against an ace from the visiting team) and also to attack and defend profitably.

The final will therefore be Grottazzolina-Siena. The Marche team, which came first in the standings in the regular season, got the better of Ravenna in the semi-final at the end of a series as hard fought as the one between Siena and Porto Viro. In the Marche region, a tiebreak in game 3 was also necessary to decide which of the two teams would go to the final: Nielsen, the best scorer of the regular season, finished the match with 26 points, 16 were scored by Michele Fedrizzi, who will be one of the exes of the final series.

The final act of the championship will start on Sunday in Grottazzolina: race 1 will begin at 6 pm. Race 2 will be in Siena on 25 April. The possible race 3 would be held in Grottazzolina on Sunday 28 April. The team that wins two of these matches will win the championship and go to the Super League.

“Reaching the playoff final is the culmination of an important year and is the reward for the work done by the boys – was the comment after the victory in game 3 of the semi-final by Emma Villas Siena coach, Gianluca Graziosi. – The reaction we had starting from the second set was important, probably in the first set we still had the residue of match 2 in Porto Viro. It wasn’t easy to recover even from a mental point of view after Sunday’s match. I congratulate the boys, because they managed to play good volleyball, with a good serve and playing with our characteristics.”

The MVP of game 3 was the center back of Emma Villas Siena, Riccardo Copelli, author of 12 points with 3 winning blocks: “I am very happy for this victory – he said after the match. – I congratulate Porto Viro who played an excellent series and who also has a very high level roster. It will be my third final, but you never get used to these moments, you always feel enormous joy. Now we’re up and dancing. We managed to get this far with a lot of humility and great daily work.”
