“Waiting…Readers’ Night”, a journey of over 100 events in 30 municipalities of Friuli
Descriptive text here

Over 100 events in 30 municipalities between Udine and the province. And it’s just the preview. The complete program of “Waiting…Readers’ Night“, the itinerant program of festival events organized by the Municipality of Udine in synergy with the cultural, library, book and associative realities and curated by Martina Delpiccolo. In fact, many events await, to stay on topic, from April 20th until the entire month of May, waiting for the actual event scheduled in Udine from 6 to 9 June and which this year will have travel as its main theme. Also taking part in the presentation were the municipal councilor for culture, Federico Pirone, the manager of the Joppi Civic Library, Cristina Marsili, and the president of the Librerie in Comune Association, Remo Politeo.

«“In any case, we are on a journey, we can’t do more than leave.” It is: it is a phrase by Franz Kafka, little known and full of unsettling suggestions, taken from a letter to Milena Jesenská, a Prague journalist and translator. A quote – explains the artistic director Martina Delpiccolo – which pays homage to the great writer, whose centenary of death is taking place, bringing us into the theme chosen for the 2024 edition: the journey, in all its forms with its wanderings, departures, returns, and with what fuels it, hunger of knowledge or curiosity, survival or search for freedom, restlessness or vitality, and much more».

The opening

While waiting for the 4 days of the actual Festival, the project, in the wake of the theme of travel, travels with the traveling preview the beauty of 30 municipalities, from Chiusaforte to Muggia, from Gemona to Bassa, starting from Udine, with more than 100 meetings starting from April 20th, according to an almost daily calendar and with various events per day, until the end of May, in Udine and from town to town, in libraries, bookshops, villas, museums, villas, castles, villages, gardens. Round tables, walks, readings, reflections and journeys through the pages of books like journeys. And then exhibitions, theatrical performances, games and initiatives featuring children, caught in their training itinerary.

The inauguration of the preview was a very rich day, Saturday 20 April. Morning of poetry at the Libreria Tarantola and then an exceptional guest for an event organized by the Libreria Moderna Udinese in the Casa della Contadinanza at 5.30pm: Giorgio Fontana will take us into Kafka’s world with his latest essay, published by Sellerio. Two walks on April 20th. One as part of the project conceived and led by Elena Commessatti, to discover “Udine, a sentimental, cheerful and a little rock story” for an “Exclusive visit to Palazzo Antonini Stringher, the splendid new headquarters of the Friuli Foundation, at 4 pm. Initiative promoted by PromoTurismo FVG, in collaboration with Fondazione Friuli, the Municipality of Udine and the Civic Museums, Federico Malignani. And always during the day, in two shifts, theatrical visits, organized by Radio Magica upon reservation, for a walk with Arturo Malignani.

The program

And, after the inauguration, round tables, a special event for the 100 years of Vincenzo Joppi, previews (but not only) of book presentations, meetings, readings (also with the collaboration of boys and girls from the Student Theater Palio Città di Udine which enters the “Waiting…Readers’ Night” circuit for the first time), workshops, meetings in the prison, walks in the city “or through time”, trips through art and exhibitions and much more.

The detailed program of “Waiting… Readers’ Night” will be available as always on the website www.lanottedeilettori.com which represents an overall promotion and storytelling tool until the June festival, but also traces the inspiring idea and history of this important initiative which with the eleventh edition aims to bring Municipalities, libraries, bookshops, publishers and authors even closer together and collaborate, in a path for the benefit of readers that concretely connects the city and its territory.
