CARRARA – In Piazza Alberica there is “The Flower Festival”. The scent and colors of flowers and plants, excellences of the territory, which bring the beautiful season and put you in a good mood, are the protagonists of the first edition of the market exhibition promoted by the Municipality of Carrara in collaboration with Coldiretti Massa-Carrara. The appointment for all enthusiasts of gardening and DIY vegetable gardens is on Saturday 20 April (from 8.00 to 20.00) in the historic center with the flower producers who join the Campagna Amica network specialized in the cultivation of plants and flowers and much more they will give useful advice to enthusiasts: from camellias to freesias, from wisteria to irises, passing through daisies, geraniums, gerberas, lemons and succulents, sage, rosemary and coriander, essential for setting up fragrant small vegetable gardens on windowsills, walls and terraces .
According to Coldiretti/Ixè, the green thumb is shared by six out of ten citizens (61%) who “arm” themselves with a hoe and rake and dedicate part of their free time to taking care of vegetable patches, gardens, balconies and terraces for “do it yourself” production ” of lettuces, tomatoes, aromatic plants, chili peppers, courgettes, aubergines, but also of peas, beans, broad beans and chickpeas to be harvested when necessary, as well as flowers and ornamental plants. But there is also 22% who are convinced, based on the results, that they have a “black thumb”: despite their efforts and commitment, plants and flowers have a short life. Among the most popular places to create small lungs of nature, also fundamental for pollinating insects, are the vegetable garden or garden, followed by the terrace or balcony.
Among the flowers of Piazza Alberica there will also be some producers from Campagna Amica such as the Il Fantabosco agricultural company specialized in the production of berries, honey and jams, fruit juices and natural distillates at zero km. There will also be a Coldiretti station for the “Stop Velutina” project promoted in collaboration with Toscana Miele to counter the spread of the bee killer and promote citizen participation in the active monitoring network through the free distribution of tap-traps. The rich day organized by the Municipality of Carrara is completed by markets, initiatives and tastings organized by the Municipality of Carrara in Piazza delle Erbe. Grand finale in music (5.00 pm) at the Music stage in Piazza Gramsci with the performance of the municipal music school which for the occasion will participate not only with its young students, but also with the senior group.
