#2 Orange’s Winning Streak Snapped in OT

CHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts – No. 2 Syracuse had its nine-game winning streak snapped in an 11-10 overtime loss at No. 6 Boston College on Thursday, April 18. The Orange end the regular season with a 12-4 record, including an 8-1 league mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Syracuse trailed, 2-1, before regaining the lead with three unanswered goals. Emma Tyrrell and Emma Ward scored back-to-back goals before Olivia Adamson opened the scoring in the second quarter to put Syracuse ahead, 4-2. The teams traded goals to send the Orange into the locker room with a 5-3 halftime lead.

Boston College (13-3, 7-2) opened the second half with three-straight goals to go up 6-5, but the Orange responded with back-to-back goals by Natalie Smith and Ward to take a 7-6 lead into the fourth quarter.

Neither team could pull away as Savannah Sweitzer broke a 9-9 tie with her second goal of the day, but the Eagles again tied the score, the seventh tie of the game, with 1:27 remaining in the fourth quarter. Boston College had the final possession of regulation, but Delaney Sweitzer intercepted a pass as time was winding down to send the game to overtime.

The Orange won the draw to start the extra session but couldn’t convert as Shea Dolce saved Smith’s shot. The Eagles worked the ball into their offensive zone and Cassidy Weeks scored her third goal of the night to give Boston College the victory.

UP NEXT

Syracuse is the No. 1 seed in next week’s ACC Tournament in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Orange will play in the first quarterfinal at 11 am on Wednesday, April 24.
