The death of a 34-year-old man, resident in the province of Cuneo, which occurred yesterday on board a Ryanair flight shortly after take-off from Caselle airport towards Lamezia Terme, has raised a series of questions and concerns. The Turin prosecutor’s office has opened a file on the case, currently without suspects or suspicion of crime, and has ordered an autopsy to clarify the exact cause of death.
The passenger suddenly felt ill shortly after take-off. The pilot, finding himself above the Ligurian skies, made the decision to return to Caselle airport to allow the emergency services to intervene. During the return flight, two doctors on board assisted the passenger, also using a defibrillator available on the aircraft. Despite his efforts, there was nothing the man could do.
The Turin prosecutor’s office is conducting a preliminary investigation to determine whether there have been any failures to comply or negligence. The opening of a file is standard practice in these cases, and serves to examine all the circumstances of the fact without prejudice.
