Infrastructural and technological upgrading completed in the Pescara-Foggia section

BARI. Starting tomorrow afternoon, railway traffic along the Adriatic line will gradually return to normal. The Italian Railway Network has concluded the infrastructural and technological upgrading works which took place between San Vito-Lanciano and San Severo, on the Pescara-Foggia route, scheduled from 8 to 19 April. RFI announced it in a press release.

The works affected various areas along the Adriatic line. In the San Giovanni Tunnel, in Abruzzo, a new Water Drain System has been implemented to improve the drainage of rainwater, thus increasing the reliability of the route. On the section between Ripalta and Lesina, in Puglia, preliminary interventions were carried out for the future doubling of the line, while in the Foggia station switches were replaced and work began for the installation of the future Central Computerized Equipment (ACC).

Furthermore, in Molise, in Campomarino stationworks were carried out to extend the crossing track, facilitating freight traffic along the Adriatic route.

At the same time, in Abruzzo, technological modernization interventions were carried out in the Diavolo, San Donato, Vasto and Sinello tunnels, in view of the construction of the Multistation Central Computerized Equipment (ACCM), as well as upgrading and maintenance works between Falconara and Ancona, Varano and Loreto, and in the stations of Cattolica, Giulianova, Ortona and Foggia.

During this period, over 250 technicians, including RFI staff and contracting companies, worked tirelessly for a total investment of approximately 260 million euros, of which 100 million came from the funds of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
