He spent a few years in prison (for a series of robberies), then chose to live in a Piedmontese municipality, where he works and volunteers. An irreproachable conduct, so much so as to deserve a positive report from the mayor of the small municipality, regarding his ability to integrate into local society.
A “different lifestyle” compared to that of 38 years ago, when – as a 21-year-old – he attacked a jewelery shop and, together with two accomplices, killed a policeman who had intervened to foil an armed robbery. This is the crucial point of the reasons that pushed the Review judges to release him Salvatore Allardnow 59 years old, ended up in cell together with his alleged accomplice Giovanni Rendinaas responsible for the murder of the police superintendent Domenico Attianeseconsumed on 4 December 1986.
A dramatic story, which remained closed in a judicial file for many years, on which there has been a recent investigative breakthrough. Investigation conducted by the prosecutor Maurizio De Marcounder the coordination of the deputy prosecutor Pierpaolo Filippelli, which leveraged a new and more powerful analysis of the fingerprints left at the crime scene by the murderers. It was a raid carried out inside the Romanelli jewelry storein Pianura.
Three of them acted, they were armed and immobilized the managers of the business. The policeman intervened and was alerted after the alarm raised by his 14-year-old daughter, who on that occasion was next to the shop owners’ daughter.

Defended by the criminal lawyer Domenico Dello Iacono, Allard was released from prison after ten days in cell. Let’s go back to the judges’ beliefs. Twelfth section, college B (Alessandra Cantone, Paola Lombardi and Alfonso Scermino): the serious clues remain unchanged, the investigation is solid; but the precautionary needs disappear. In what sense? Allard was detained from 1996 to 2004 (for other robberies that were allegedly committed after the bloodthirsty robbery), then he remained to live in Piedmont. Here he worked and volunteered. We read in the reasons: «After almost 40 years from the events, in the presence of a clear change in lifestyle and considering that the last crime committed by the appellant dates back to 1996, the danger of repeating the crime is no longer present. Salvatore Allard’s long period of detention carried out this resocialization function that the constitution attributes to punishment, determining a positive evolution in Allard’s personality.”
The daughter
Everything is clear, even if there are some doubts on the part of Carla Attianese, left orphaned by the policeman, even though she was a witness during the investigation. She explains to Il Mattino: «My father will never return, even if the murderers are arrested and convicted. As for the reasons for the Review, I would like to remind you that the serious indications are solid.
It is important that there is this confirmation, it means that we are getting closer to the truth.” Then, on the release of the suspect, Carla Attianese she adds: «I am not a fanatic of preventive detention, there is nevertheless a debt to pay towards my father, towards me and my family, but also towards society as a whole.
Then I ask myself a question as a citizen, even before as a daughter: if it is true that that man has rehabilitated himself, changed his lifestyle, why didn’t he hand himself over to the institutions? Did he live a life carrying with him what happened in that jewelry store? Why did he wait for the results of investigations 38 years after the events? Maybe he was hoping to get away with it?”.
And again: «I have never asked for revenge, everyone has the right to defend themselves in all forums, but I simply remind you that here we are not talking about public administration crimes or small crimes but about the life of a man killed while doing his job , while affirming the values of justice.” Meanwhile, investigations by the Naples Prosecutor’s Office continue. There is a third man missing: he is the one dressed in elegant clothes, who pretended to be a customer of the jewelry store, leaving the armored door open, thus encouraging the entry of the two accomplices. The case is not closed, after the Review we await the opening of a trial.
