Faenza, in the District A four friends and partners open «Moscone» where piadinas and watercress are to be taken into bite

Riccardo Isola – There is a Moscone on the “shore” of the Lamone. However, this is not the annoying flying insect that torments the hot summer days, but a new, tasty and fun food and wine project, balanced between slow and fast food in the Romagna style, which focuses entirely on some undisputed symbols of the area: piadina and watercress .
Gian Maria Manuzzi, Carlo Zauli, Matteo Fantinelli and Fabrizio Bagnara, four historic friends and animators of the nightlife and tasty offerings in the city, have thus decided to ride the wave, not the one that hit Faenza in May 2023, but that of taste. They did this by creating a container that primarily contained. However, they conceived, thought and shaped it, above all, precisely in one of the neighborhoods most affected by the events of a year ago, District A, along the evocative and ancient Mittarelli Walls. Here, as the creators themselves wrote in the «Moscone» slogan, they wanted to give a “rescue” response. A carnet of artisanal piadinas and cress, born from traditional doughs made by the “Chef of the text” Leonardo Marabini and advice from a chef of the caliber of Pier Giorgio Parini, all combined with contemporary fillings and recipes. A response to a gastronomic lack that was starting to be felt in the city.
«Moscone is first and foremost a journey to the Romagna of hospitality and entertainment – comments one of the creators, Gian Maria Manuzzi – who wants to bring the Riviera of the boom of the 90s of the last century to the heart of the hinterland. A Moscone which is a symbol and representation in bite of a 100% Made in Romagna philosophy and which aims to satisfy the palates and souls of those who want revenge after the difficult situation that has hit the area.” And it is precisely in this part of the “regional heel”, the one most overlooking the Adriatic, that the true added value of the wine-beer-gastronomic offering of this cross-section of the Riviera that once was and that hopefully will return to being comes to life. «High quality raw materials, from cured meats to cheeses up to the limited but highly appreciated fish offerings, craftsmanship in the creation of the dough, which among other things aims to be a middle ground between the subtle interpretation of the Riviera and the much more large present and south of the Via Emilia, are offers of sea and land always in tune with seasonality, a list of wines and beers in which the references are strictly in artisanal and Romagna style – explains Manuzzi – is the format of the offer that we present to the public. We want to give a sign of attention and closeness to those who every day try to cultivate, breed and build authentic, genuine, healthy and therefore tasty quality. An idea that navigates from the past into the stormy and irascible waters of the present, always with a smile on its lips. We only try to transform it, unite it and bring it closer through the wise awareness of our means. Just think – continues one of the members – that the vegetables used in the fillings come from a small but at the same time great excellence that opened, again in Faenza, a few weeks ago: Ca’ di Viazadur».
Moscone is not just something to eat, but also and above all to share. For this reason Manuzzi recalls how «we want to give an answer, from 11am to 10pm during the week which becomes 11pm on the weekend, to that sudden peckishness, to that irrepressible desire for Romagna-style crunch, to everyone who finds themselves in the stormy sea of sudden hunger. Moscone, in fact, is not by chance that rescue flatbread. That anchor to hold on to when you want something good, fast and above all authentic declares war.” As for the location, truly pleasant in its architectural and furnishing “mise en place”, it is characterized by the presence of umbrellas, re-proposals of the legendary beach cabins, and a lookout tower for the Romagna lifeguard present in the garden. In fact, it seems like we are catapulted onto the Adriatic shoreline between Rimini and Cesenatico, truly in the 1990s. A gem then is the one served in the toilets. A genius that cannot be missed for its bold, memorable and fun “disco” characterization. However, all overlooking, albeit relatively not close to, the Lamone.…
There is also a plan parallel to the pleasure of gluttony. «During the summer and the beautiful season – concludes Manuzzi – we also have in mind to host and organize, in the garden-beach inside the venue, a series of events, initiatives and convivial moments capable of bringing back and experiencing carefreeness for everyone, the joy, the desire to share and the fun, which in Faenza, in District A and above all in this area of the city, seems to have been missing for a while. There is a great need for it, in a transversal and intergenerational way, and we try to offer it as we have always done. We wanted to try and hope to be able to confirm the success of the project in the future too.”
