The inter-institutional conference was held in the conference room of the Provincial Headquarters of the Carabinieri, set up as a discussion table on the topic of the spread of new and old drugs on the territory of the Province.
The speakers, Dr. *Luigi Bartoletti*, Director of the Department of Addictions Pathology (Ser.D.), Dr. *Maria Matilde Ciriello*, Director of the Analysis Laboratory of the University Hospital of Alessandria (AOUAL), Dr. *Daniele Zambon*, Head of the Analytical, Occupational and Forensic Toxicology Unit of the University Hospital of Alessandria (AOUAL), Dr. *Riccardo Boverio*, Director of the Department of Emergency Medicine – Urgency of the AOUAL, Dr. *Carlo Locatelli *, Director of the Poison Control Center and National Toxicological Information Center of the Institute for Scientific Hospitalization and Treatment (IRCCS) Maugeri of Pavia, and on *Mar. Maj. Gianluca Belli*, head of the Laboratory of Analysis of Narcotic Substances (LASS) of the Carabinieri Provincial Command of Alessandria, addressed the delicate problem of the diffusion of narcotic substances from the perspective of the specific sector of competence.
The conference was opened by *Colonel Massimiliano Rocco*, Provincial Commander of the Carabinieri of Alessandria, who after the honors illustrated the purposes of the meeting: _«This moment, which serves as a table for discussion on issues relating to the diffusion of substances in the territory and the appearance of any new ones, also has the purpose of analyzing and combating the phenomenon, differentiated and related to the different perspectives of each sector: investigative, health, social and toxicological”._
The General Director of the ASL of Alessandria, Dr. *Luigi Vercellino*, agrees: _«Congratulations for the initiative, which represents an important synergy for combating a common problem»_.
Doctor *Luigi Bartoletti* gives a speech on the topic of pathological addiction and the psychological consequences deriving from the intake of old and new doping substances with attention to the analysis of the data acquired during the treatment of patients. Following this, Dr. *Maria Matilde Ciriello* and Dr. *Daniele Zambon* addressed the toxicological analysis protocols in relation to the various situations, describing the critical issues arising from the detection of new substances but also the possibilities of analysis upon request of the competent offices . Doctor *Riccardo Boverio* then spoke on the topic of the procedures envisaged for carrying out toxicological tests at the request of the police with the related critical issues relating to the chain of custody of the finds, while Doctor *Carlo Locatelli* spoke about epidemiological analysis of new drugs in the Province of Alessandria, possibly relating it to the national territory.
On *Mar. Maj. Gianluca Belli*, head of the Laboratory of Analysis of Narcotic Substances (LASS) of the Carabinieri of Alessandria, illustrated the activity of the laboratory, summarized by a summary of the analyzes conducted in 2023 on the narcotic substances seized in the commands of the provinces of competence and therefore indicative of the law enforcement action carried out by the Carabinieri in the province in relation to the neighboring provinces, also opening a focus on the new drugs that have appeared on the national territory and, in particular, in the province.
