Vittoria unveils XC Race technology with new Peyote and Mezcal

With UCI XC World Championship titles in both the long and short format, Vittoria is proud to finally offer the public what the factory riders have been using for the last two seasons.

With modern XC trails becoming faster and more technical, tire performance requirements have never been more demanding. Producing tires that are not only stronger but also faster is a tall order, but Vittoria has managed to achieve it with both the new Peyote and the proven Mezcal tread.

The new Peyote

Peyote is intended for hard and loose terrain, for runners looking for maximum advantage. Telemetry results place Peyote fastest in class and up to 4% faster than the closest competitor, while field testing has shown unprecedented, uncompromising agility and speed.

“When designing Peyote, the goal wasn’t simply to go fast. Instead, we intended the objective to be achieved as reducing the time from point A to point B, taking into account the cyclist’s speed, grip, control, reliability and fatigue.“said Ken Avery, SVP Product Development.

Peyote’s revolutionary new tread pattern is positioned between Terrano and Mezcal, offering increased speed and grip thanks to a low-profile, alternating centerline. The familiar Vittoria V formation used in the Peyote allows the tire to dig through loose terrain to find traction while evacuating debris sideways. The alternating intermediate tread tapers to a cornering-capable tread, offering responsive handling and predictable feel. These features help improve cornering performance by placing the effective edges directly opposite the path of cornering forces, regardless of lean or turn angles.

New Mezcal XC Race 2.4: endless success in a new dimension

To complement the new Peyote, the World Championship-proven Mezcal also sees a new 2.4 size option utilizing Vittoria’s new XC Race formulation and technology.

New Race Wording

Both the new Peyote and Mezcal XC Race are constructed using the new XC Race formulation and have been torture tested at the UCI’s elite levels. The Race formulation uses graphene and silica, ensuring greater wet grip and softness, and combines a 60 TPI tubeless ready carcass to optimize deformation. This combination has been proven to reduce rider fatigue while increasing reliability on race day.

“Vittoria is committed to pushing the boundaries of innovation,” said Vanessa ten Hoff, Chief Innovation Officer at Vittoria. “The new XC Race formulation is just another example of how Vittoria is thinking outside the box to ensure serious cyclists get the best possible performance in every scenario.”

The new carcass, new compound and addition of new Mezcal sizes show a 3% improvement in rolling performance alone, while the new Peyote Tread shows a total 6% improvement when combined with this new carcass and compound. When applied to a real-world scenario, this means that a Peyote rider in a typical XC racing scenario will gain approximately 0.75 km/h. of the average speed during the race. These advantages are added to an 11% increase in grip (especially in the wet) and durability of the new carcass without affecting reliability.
