The mayor Federico Basile and the councilor for culture Enzo Caruso, during a press conference to be held tomorrow, Friday 19 April, at 9.30 am, in the Falcone Borsellino room in Palazzo Zanca, will present the bilingual Greek-Italian tourist signs. The honorary consul of Greece in Catania Arturo Bizzarro, the president of the Hellenic Community of the Straits Daniele Macris, and professor Maria Polimenaku, seconded to Messina by the Greek Ministry of Education will take part in the meeting.

The creation of bilingual Greek-Italian tourist signs represents part of the activities envisaged by the Kalos project; project financed by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers – pursuant to law no. 482 of 15.12 1999 – and presented by the municipality of Messina in 2023 which, by virtue of its recognition in 2012 as a linguistic minority municipality, was able to benefit from funding of €10,100.00 for a program of activities aimed at enhancing and making known the Greek linguistic minority historically present in the Messina area.

The meeting will also be an opportunity to present Giovanni Guglielmo’s exhibition “Myths and Legends. From Greek myths to the legends of Messina”, which will also be inaugurated tomorrow, at 6pm, in the foyer of the Palacultura.

As part of the Kalos project, other activities were carried out such as Greek language and culture courses for municipal employees, the drafting of a multimedia dictionary to be included in the Municipality portal, organized by the students of the “Catalfamo” IC, and modern Greek at the Maurolico high school, thanks to the contribution of professors Daniele Macris, Antonio Cucinotta, Cristina Provenzano, Esmeralda Pagano, Teresa Cucinotta and Giuseppe Carbone.
