They have finally arrived at Cosenzaseven months late compared to the original delivery times, the first two electric buses For Amacobranded Karsan.

These are 8 meter long midibuses with a maximum capacity of 52 passengers and a range of 300 kilometres, to which 20 hybrid vehicles should be added, which according to the regional plan for the modernization of the vehicle fleet have been allocated to the urban services of Cosenza.

But the conditional is a must given that Amaco is in judicial liquidation and in business until 30 September 2024: so not only the fate of the buses theoretically arriving is still uncertain, but also – not to mention above all – of the one hundred and thirty employees of the consortium.

Amaco, the mayor of Cosenza speaks

«They were delivered to Amaco by Cometra Scarl and today two new buses, totally electric and modern, have finally been registered and ready to be used. This dutiful and important act which is recorded within the city’s public transport system is fully part of the environmental sustainability actions that, as the municipal administration, we are pursuing”, declared the mayor Franz Caruso who yesterday morning together with the judicial commissioner Fernando Caldiero, examined the two vehicles, ensuring that they can immediately be put into service.

Therefore, the mayor added: “The two new buses are the first of 20 other hybrid vehicles which, according to the regional bus renewal plan, have been allocated to the urban services of Cosenza, which should have been in circulation for 7 months already, and for which we ask for an acceleration in the procedures for putting it on the road. In fact, these last buses, which have been stopped for months due to a series of specious problems to the detriment of the citizens of Cosenza, must be unblocked without delay as soon as possible. Local public transport cannot do without it because the vehicles currently available are obsolete and dated, while the buses purchased to replace them ensure greater safety for citizen users and also offer the necessary guarantees to Amaco drivers and controllers. They cannot, therefore, remain still for incomprehensible reasons.”

And, finally, Caruso commented as follows: “«Despite the dramatic event that affected Amaco, which led to the declaration of bankruptcy by the CourtI do not intend to give up on the relaunch, including corporate, of the management of public transport and mobility services in the city. Therefore my attention to this fundamental service will always be attentive and vigilant.”
