20 April: ‘Now Enough!’ Over 200 from Cremona for the national demonstration of CGIL and UIL

Cremona, 17 April – Over 200 delegates from CGIL and UIL will travel from the province of Cremona, by coach and train, to the national demonstration in Rome on Saturday 20 April.

“After the territorial strike on 11 April, the mobilization continues as we anticipated – declares Elena Curci, General Secretary of CGIL Cremona – “and we will not stop until our requests are heard”.

The requests

Investments in the national health service for the protection of the right to health, reducing waiting lists, overcoming gaps and inequalities between regions, and protecting elderly and non-self-sufficient people; Zero deaths at work, with the request for education and training, a qualification system for all public and private companies and the implementation of permanent coordination between the Local Health Authorities and the National Labor Inspectorate; A fair tax reform, overcoming the logic of amnesties, amnesties and agreements, the indexation of inflation and a tax system that is truly fair and progressive; Fair wages in line with inflation, strengthening bargaining, but also through the reduction of working hours for the same salary. These are the demands of the unions who will demonstrate in the square in Rome on Saturday 20 April.

“Safety in the workplace, the right to care guaranteed by public and universal healthcare and a modern and inclusive school are basic values for a civilized country – insists Germano Denti, Provincial Coordinator of UIL Cremona – the government does nothing in this sense and hides behind empty slogans and lying promises.”

“Not to mention taxes: workers and pensioners are increasingly pressured and used as ATMs – continues Curci – tax evasion is in fact legalised, and we continue with favors for those who already have more, today it is not only unsustainable but it is outside of any common sense logic. Continuing to tax self-employment and financial income less than employee work or pension income is absurd.”

“We will be in the streets for the dignity of work – conclude the trade unionists – workers are first of all people and for a sustainable future of our country our demands are necessary. After April 20th we will not stop, but in the meantime we invite everyone to join us in this square, for work, for people, for the country
