the Municipality’s proposal was chosen

LECCE – The process towards the creation of the new police headquarters in Lecce is progressing. The prefecture, on behalf of the Ministry of the Interior, had published a notice for the search for land suitable for the needs of a new headquarters and functional to the needs of agents and staff.

Forza Italia MP, Andrea Caroppo, announced in a note that “several proposals were received by the deadline, including that of the Municipality of Lecce, relating to the land it owns in via Caduti di Nassiriya near the ‘San Giuseppe Sports Hall’ from Copertino’, was considered the most adequate. Now we are just waiting for the certification on the absence of aquifers which the Municipality of Lecce should have delivered in the last few hours, so that we can proceed with the purchase of the land and its acquisition into state property”.

This is a lot with urban planning destination F28 “military equipment for civil protection and public order”, on the corner with via delle Silene. The city council, on several occasions, had expressed its desire to sell that land to the state and at the beginning of February the council had approved the guidelines for participation in the tender.

“It is time to give concrete answers to the women and men of the state police who have been waiting for decades for a new headquarters to be able to work in safe, healthy and dignified environments,” concluded Caroppo.

Anti-crime department: note from Sap

Speaking of state police, today there is a renewed request for an increase in staffing by the Autonomous Police Union (SAP) which took inspiration from the hypothesis of employing soldiers from the Army, together with the police forces for the garrison of some points of the city. In this sense, a request from the mayor of Lecce goes to the prefect, for the appropriate assessments.

“The Autonomous Police Union of Lecce expresses opposition to the use of soldiers to guard the city’s territory; the historical moment does not allow it and it is not sustainable with the current staff already burdened by a multitude of services. The Sap is committed in all institutional offices to prevent the planned closure of facilities such as the Lecce Crime Prevention Department which has always been responsible for the widespread control of the territory, carrying it out with dedication and effectiveness; it would be an unbridgeable loss. We therefore reiterate as we have always done, that the solution is always the one exposed by the Sap, sending personnel and means for adequate prevention and control of the territory”.

The SAP provincial secretariat recalls that “over time the neighborhood policeman and the nautical team have effectively been abolished, that the flying motorbikes rarely come out, that the police stations and specialties have staff reduced to a minimum. Bearing in mind the retirements, the latest transfers have not produced an increase in staff: this is the reality, waiting for the new Lecce police station for thirty years. We hope for an intervention from all the institutional components that take note of the situation with a concrete intervention for the safety of the citizens of this province”.
