This morning Celestino Capolongo, who was revoked by the judge from house arrest and all precautionary measures in the context of the Farmghosters investigation, resigned as City Councilor of Cerignola, elected in the PD. The Secretary of the Democratic Party Daniele Dalessandro shared with Capolongo, now freed, the opportunity to resign. Dalessandro also suspended Capolongo as a member of the Democratic Party. “Although the Farmghosters investigation has nothing to do with political and administrative activity – comments Dalessandro – I shared with Capolongo the opportunity to resign to protect the good name of the Municipal Institution, of the Democratic Party and of Capolongo himself. I also took steps to suspend him from the PD as a member, waiting for the issue to be clarified.”

“The choice obviously also has personal reasons for Capolongo and that is to face the possible judicial process with serenity and obstinacy, free from administrative responsibilities, in order to demonstrate his total innocence and non-involvement in the facts. At present Capolongo is the subject of investigative activities, at the end of which we will know if he will be sent to trial or if, we hope, his position will be archived. Nonetheless, Capolongo resigned and, whatever happens, he will no longer be a municipal councilor of our city.”

“I express appreciation – concluded Dalessandro – for all those people and political forces, both majority and opposition, who have commented and treated the issue with respect, aware of the extraneous nature of the matter to politics and administration, who have also legitimately asked for resignation to protect the image of the Municipal Institution but who – at the same time – understood the seriousness of a possible proceeding against a person with no criminal record, retired, known in the city as available and at the service of others. If Capolongo made a mistake he will pay, according to the law and according to the judiciary to which our gratitude and our unconditional trust always goes for the work done. To the very few jackals, judged to have been dissolved for mafia by the President of the Republic Mattarella, who instead of remaining silent due to the collective shame to which they have subjected the good name of Cerignola, today talk about legality and speculate on this story, even claiming that Capolongo’s conduct has brought votes of dubious origin to the PD, it should simply be remembered that the people involved in the investigation are foreigners without the right to vote”.
