Society of San Francesco De Paoli Terni: Diocesan President confirmed

Always attentive to monitoring the needs of the territory, which are continuously increasing in the number of cases and in the complexity of family situations, to which economic need is added to the discomfort in interpersonal and social relationships, the volunteers of the San Vincenzo de’ Paoli society diocese of Terni-Narni-Amelia continue in their daily commitment to support those most in need, in the style of the Vincentian charism of friendship and proximity.

Three important events in the sign of renewal characterized the first months of 2024, starting with the new spiritual assistant, the deacon Ideale Piantoni; the renewal of the diocesan presidency, which in the elective assembly of 10 March 2024 reconfirmed Roberto Reale as president for the three-year period 2024-2027. Domenica Pasquinelli were elected to the presidential office vicepresident, Antonella Catanzani secretary, Bruno Brancazio treasurer and members of the presidency: Beatrice Cinaglia, Maria Camera, Elisabetta Lomoro.

In March the new San Lino papa conference of Vigne di Narni was established, which will dedicate itself to situations of need in the area of Gualdo, Vigne, Schifanoia and Moricone, with 13 volunteers who have already started the food collection activity in the churches and local shops.

Also in March, the Santa Maria Assunta conference resumed its activity in the Cathedral of Terni, one of the first to be established in the city, which has followed and helped many people in difficulty for decades, becoming a point of reference and sociality for Italian families and foreign. With the appointment of the new president and the arrival of 5 new volunteers, the Cathedral conference has started the listening center, visits to families and first aid.

In a situation of economic and social crisis, which has worsened following Covid and whose after-effects are still present, it is necessary to recover a sociality that has been lost, especially among adolescents and the elderly who have remained isolated in different ways and who they find it more difficult to escape from this situation of solitude.

«There is a desire for a restart, for relationships, for solidarity after the closure imposed by the pandemic – claims Roberto Reale -. The same desire can be seen in the people assisted and in the people who interact with the Association, as we have seen from the positive results obtained in the activities carried out in recent months. In addition to providing aid for the most urgent needs, we try to work on human relationships to recover them.”

Even at the Emporio Bimbi, which last year helped 543 children of 32 nationalities, the activity for children aged 0 to 14 continues incessantly, with ever new requests for registration from families, mainly Moroccan. There are also numerous Ukrainian mothers and children, with the Ukraine emergency project around 60 children continue to be helped, as around 50% of the Ukrainian mothers who arrived in Terni remained in the city and continue to be followed by the volunteers of the emporium on specific days dedicated to them. New workshops will soon be launched at the Emporio Bimbi, carried out by young Vincentians together with Ukrainians, to integrate them into the social environment of the city which has now become their second homeland.
