Trapani, the Municipality has been asked for damages for the 2022 floods

The Trapani floods in September 2022 they begin to present the bill.

It’s not the money coming from the Region, but the compensation claims that the citizens who suffered the damage have advanced to the Municipality of Trapani.

As in the case of owner of a company of the field of medical specializations which took the Municipality of Trapani to court precisely due to the damage that the property suffered due to the rains of 26 September 2022.

On that occasion the city of Trapani literally went under water with some streets remaining flooded for up to 24 hours.

There were several businesses and properties that suffered damage and this list also includes the registered office of a company specializing in medical examinations, considering that the water that entered from the street invaded several rooms reaching up to 50 centimeters in height.

From an appraisal commissioned from a technician, the damages amount to over 20 thousand euros and, to recover the damage, the owner of the company resorted to mediation, to which the Municipality of Trapani did not participate, which is why the summons has now arrived before the Court of Trapani.

“The failure to carry out extraordinary maintenance of sewer pipes, drains and manholes by those who have been called upon to administer the city of Trapani since 2018 appears evident – explains thelawyer Vincenzo Maltese who assists the company –. From the documentation that will be made available to the Court, the Judge will be able to freely assess whether, as we believe, there is a direct responsibility of the Municipality for failure to maintain the sewerage network entrusted to its custody and consequently, we will only be able to ask for compensation for all the damages suffered. The rest of the sterile controversies, and the “pass the buck strategy” by referring to past years”.

Meanwhile, the first hearing of another dispute initiated by a private individual against the Municipality of Trapani for the damage suffered by the flooding of Via Orti to his private property will be held next June.
