«Basilicata needs healthcare and infrastructure»

BASILICATA – «Basilicata needs first and foremost healthcare, healthcare and more healthcare, and infrastructure, infrastructure, infrastructure. That’s what people are asking for.” Thus, in Pisticci (Matera), the president of the M5S, Giuseppe Conte, on the sidelines of an electoral initiative for the Regional elections of 21 and 22 April.

«The right to treatment – continued the five-star leader – must be effective, and here it is not. And obviously there are the difficulties of an infrastructure plan that is not implemented.”

In the evening, in Matera, Conte will end his two days in Basilicata, where the M5S, together with the Democratic Party and other centre-left political forces, supports the gubernatorial candidate Piero Marrese, dem president of the Province of Matera. «If the Lucanians want to positively evaluate this political project of ours – concluded the former prime minister – the next day a reliable, serious team will be installed, coordinated by our candidate for president of the Region. A team of people who already have proven administrative experience, with a turning point in the field of healthcare and citizen services that could already take place within a few months.”

The M5s “is clearly against the Pnrr decree: we are deeply concerned”. The president of the Movement, Giuseppe Conte, said this, speaking to journalists in Pisticci (Matera), on the sidelines of an electoral initiative for the Lucanian regional elections on 21 and 22 April.
«Here, rather than the Brothers of Italy – he continued – they are proving to be ‘Enemies of Italy’ and ‘friends of weapons’ in the field of healthcare. Therefore, in our opinion, this Pnrr is moving in a completely wrong direction, absolutely different from how we originally oriented it, which was economic growth combined with social development. We don’t need new weapons, we don’t need to invest in the wrong direction. Here – he concluded – we need healthcare, we need to realize the right to full citizenship of all citizens”.

Conte: this phase is a bit reminiscent of Mani Pulite

«We are going through a phase that also reminds us a little of that of Clean Hands, where scandals began to emerge and the politics and ruling class of the time did not understand that there was a widespread disease, a completely deviant way of doing politics that clearly called the judiciary to assume a responsibility that should belong to politics”. Thus, in Pisticci (Matera), the president of the M5S, Giuseppe Conte, also in reference to the latest Sicilian investigation into corruption and vote-swapping.

«Given the scandals from North to South – continued Conte – the latest in Sicily, with the vice-president of the centre-right involved, I therefore say: let’s all stop for a moment and try to recover the dignity of politics. It means – he continued – self-reform, without waiting for the provisions of the judiciary”
