As we learn from press release no. 436 of 3 May 2024 from LND Sicily, the match between Aspra and Mazara, play-off to establish the last and penultimate position in the standings of the Eccellenza championship, group A, has been cancelled. Mazara has in fact officially presented a letter of withdrawal from the match which should have been played on Sunday in Castellammare and which would have been important with a view to a possible repechage. In fact, the last day, XXX, of Group A of Eccellenza Sicilia, played last Sunday, was not enough to have the final ranking.
According to the Federal Regulation, art. 51 of the NOIF, Mazara calcio and Aspra, who finished last in the standings on equal points (20 points) and were both relegated due to the gap with the fifth from last, should have played a play-off to decide who was actually last and penultimate (who could ask for a repechage ). Apparently after the last match of the Championship several yellow-blue players would have left again and therefore it would be impossible to present a line-up to face the play-off. The match should have been played on Sunday 5 May at 4pm on a neutral pitch, for the occasion at the municipal stadium of Castellammare del Golfo; the organization of the match was entrusted to the Castellammare Calcio 94 company.
