The demolition and reconstruction of the former Royal hotel has begun, in the central Via De Robertis which, from the historic hotel it was (it was inaugurated in 1952 and closed in 2015), will become a residential complex.
The executing company is Silco, of Altamura, the designers are a pool headed by the engineer Giorgio Gramegna, for the direction of the works, and the architect Giuseppe D’Angelo, together with the Decimoparallelo studio.
The demolition and reclamation works in the area will last a month, while the overall work to complete the new building will end in mid-2025.
In the meantime, there could be inconvenience for motorists, pedestrians, traders and residents, as the director and commander of the local police, Leonardo Cuocci Martorano, has ordered a ban on stopping and transit on via Pansini, in the stretch between via Nicola de Roggiero and via De Robertis, and via De Robertis, in the stretch between via de Cuneo and via Bebio, in order to safely allow the demolition and reclamation works of the area by the Silco.
A building with six levels above ground will be created, including the ground floor, which will strictly maintain the same volume as the previous one and in fact should have even less. In fact, the project involved the elimination of a false extension on the ground floor which was subject to amnesty.
In the new residential structure there can be space for up to 20 real estate units starting from 55 square meters.
The end of the hotel restriction came with the sentence with which the Puglia Regional Administrative Court, in acceptance of the property’s request, annulled the well-known denial of 1 December 2021 with which the outgoing director of the urban planning area, Francesco Gianferrini, had denied the building permit affirming the persistence of a hotel bond on the stable one.
This puts an end to a piece of the city’s history, but also to a ruin with which the neighborhood has coexisted for ten years anything but pleasantly.
