ROME – “Courage and heart”. These are the two fundamental qualities for leading and changing Perugia after ten years of centre-right administration second the candidate for mayor of the very large field in the Umbrian capital, Vittoria Ferdinandi, the psychologist – restaurateur awarded Knight of the Order of Merit of the Republic by President Sergio Mattarella in 2021 for her experience at the helm of the ‘Numero Zero’ multifunctional restaurant-centre, where boys and girls suffering from mental disorders work.

“Courage is a virtue that has a lot to do with the heart. The heart has to do with the ability to intercept people, their needs and desires”, said Ferdinandi in an interview given to the director of the Dire agency, Nico Perrone. “I believe that after years in which the left-wing progressive forces have been in opposition, also losing a bit of contact with the territory and with the peoplea change of pace was needed.”

A change of pace, he underlined, “that this new political project has decided to make with courage and with a choice that is not at all obvious, going in the direction of a candidacy that could express the civic universe that comes together with organized politics to seek to put the city back at the center and an alternative and credible project for the future of Perugia“. A choice, that of the Perugian centre-left, which according to the candidate “marks a change of pace, gender and generational, but above all of a political posture that was capable of taking a step back with respect to the patterns of positioning and interest to put center the possibility of trying to build a new governance culture. A culture of government that is very focused on the needs of the city and based on the values of listening and discussion, because our city needs radical responses that have nothing to do with extremist political positions.”

The centre-right’s response to the controversy over her is clear: “I understand the need from the point of view of political narrative to try to push my figure towards the far left and to create a polarization between two sides. But it is precisely the center-right that sees a candidacy that makes no secret of coming from groups, such as that of Fuan, which follow the history of the extremist right. I have never been part of organized groups, I have never had a party card, I have always pursued bottom-up politics starting from associations and the only extremism that I feel I can welcome in my story is the extreme love I have always had for my city.”
