The Democratic Party in Sicily with Elly Schlein as leader for the 2024 European elections. The list of the Democratic Party with the candidates for the European elections for the Islands constituency was filed this afternoon at 4pm. The filing, at the Court of Appeal of Palermo, was made by the president of the regional direction of the Democratic Party, Antonio Ferrante, and by Mari Albanese, head of the regional Anti-Mafia department, in the presence of the regional secretary, Anthony Barbagallo.
In addition to the list leader Schlein, national secretary of the Democratic Party, the list includes the deputy group leader in the Senate Antonio Nicita, the journalist Lidia Tilotta, the outgoing MEP Pietro Bartolo, the Sardinian Angela Quaquero, Giuseppe Lupo, city councilor in Palermo and former group leader in the Ars, the lawyer and former parliamentarian from Messina Maria Flavia Timbro and Giuseppe Belvisi, teacher and expert on European funds for the environment.
“We set ourselves – states the regional secretary, Anthony Barbagallo – to build the strongest list possible, a goal which I believe we have achieved. I am proud of all the candidates and I especially thank our national secretary, Elly Schlein, for agreeing to be the top candidate in the islands constituency. The objective is – he continues – to get one more vote compared to previous elections. It will be much more difficult but – he concludes – we are aware of having built highly authoritative lists not only in the College of the Islands, but also throughout the country, on the long wave of our national secretary”.
