Don Dante Bernini

He was titular bishop of Assidona, then bishop of Velletri-Segni and subsequently of Albano where he ended his mandate in 1999. President of the Justice and Peace Commission of the Italian Episcopal Conference and vice-president of the Commission of the Episcopal Conferences of the European Community. Don Dante Bernini was one of the most illustrious figures for his commitment to peace, solidarity and non-violence. Throughout his entire life, as a priest and as a teacher, he was
constantly committed to peace and justice, in solidarity with the suffering and
the oppressed, for the protection of creation, in the promotion of non-violence.
HE Mons. Bruno Forte, theologian and archbishop of, wrote about him a few years ago
Chieti-Vasto: “He gives his life for his people, without sparing, without regrets, tirelessly
seek those who are far away, in serving and welcoming those who knock at his heart. You feel that he is a free man,
who does not seek himself but the other, and seeks him with passionate, humble self-giving. It infects you
freedom. You are passionate about justice”.
An example, still valid and current today, to be remembered and amplified also for his own
constant attention towards young people and towards the commitment of the laity in the life of the Church
post-conciliar.
For this reason, with the collaboration of the Diocese of Viterbo and thanks to the hospitality of
HE Mons. Orazio F. Piazza and the initiative of Don Gianni Carparelli, the Popular University
Cattolica “Montemurro-D’Ippolito” intended to commemorate the figure of Don Dante
Bernini with the intention of deepening his teaching and spirituality, certainly
prophetic, which characterized him in his priestly apostolate and in his ministry
episcopal.
