The municipality of Turin places a clampdown on the consumption of cigarettes, including electronic ones, by imposing the smoking ban less than 5 meters away from another person, even outdoors, and never in the presence of children or pregnant women. A fine will be provided for violators.

The modification of the municipal regulation proposed by the Radical councilor has been approved by the Turin council Silvio Viale.
The Piedmontese capital imposes an additional smoking banalso prohibited outdoors and therefore in outdoor areas, in queues, in parks or at public transport stops.

The law imposes a ban on smoking, in any place, at a distance less than 5 meters from other peopleunless you have their explicit consent.
While smoking will always be prohibited if present in the vicinity of children or pregnant womenas already provided for by the regulation.

Also valid for electronic cigarettes
It expands thearticle 7 of the urban police regulation number 221, with the addition of a passage stating that the ban does not only concern traditional cigarettes.
The ban also includes cigars, pipes, heated tobacco and any combustion productincluding e-cigarettes.

The choice of the mayor of Turin
Thus the mayor of Turin, Stefano Lo Russocommented on the new regulation to the microphones of ToRadio: “It’s about respecting those who don’t smoke and somehow promoting a culture that has respect for others at its core.”
“It can be considered a health measure – said Silvio Viale, supporter of the proposal – but it is above all one cultural question of respect non-smokers and of good education”.
The ban on smoking, even outdoors, applies in numerous European cities and in Italy a similar rule exists only in Milanwhere from 2021 smoking is prohibited in parks, at public transport stops, in play areas and dog areas, in cemeteries and in sports facilities.
However, there is no law at national level and the choice of whether or not to introduce cigarette bans is currently up to individual municipalities.
