Once again, it is the residents of the area who are asking themselves this question historic center of the city of Arechi. Especially those who live near the famous Largo del Plebiscito, which has long been a no-man’s land. Indeed, the land of «a failure ZTL reporting on Google Maps» which brings in indiscriminate cars of tourists and citizens who do not know the area and – rightly – are fined for accessing where it is prohibited. The methods and (bad) habits for evading controls are now known but it seems that it is precisely the latter that are winning – according to the exasperated residents – and not the deterrent of fines and illegal access by those who (even if they arm themselves with incivility) often he does not know the ban and is unable to see the only passage indicated by the physical sign alone and not by the one that connects the so-called “Google cell” to be connected to the electronic devices that signal the bans ahead of time. And so, indiscriminate parking, unauthorized stops, cars in queues and passages that put pedestrians at serious risk. Once again, as has been happening for more than two years now. Yes, because the residents – after several requests – are still waiting for a solution to a problem that goes back a long way. The signs (not bright and therefore difficult to connect to the telephone and internet connection cells) do not allow the so-called road navigators to indicate their presence. The residents had loudly asked the municipal administration and the municipal police commander more than a year ago for the situation to be resolved, especially for the two gates of via Monterisi and via San Michele which allow direct entry into Duomo area. Requests went unheard.

«Fines are welcome but by now everyone has understood, in fact it seems to be done on purpose at this point, that you can still go through there and park. It doesn’t matter whether they get a fine, they will only find out later, perhaps after a specific request to us residents who are always forced to say that that is a limited traffic area and access and parking are only permitted to residents – some citizens had already underlined – a shame that has been going on for years, even putting up a more visible sign becomes difficult in this city and then we make a really bad impression, it means that there is no adequate organisation”.

One of the spokespersons for the residents of the area still raises many doubts, Vittorio Ruggiero: «Nowadays it seems that we pretend not to know, even though we know why we collect money, it is perhaps a pure income. Even on Sunday afternoon there were many accesses, not to mention Friday night and Saturday when cars only enter through that gate and enter the historic center because the other gates are marked with a lighted traffic light sign. The justification now is that there is an iron sign and therefore they should see it. On Sunday, tourists showed me how Google Maps indicates only that entrance while prohibiting the other gates. What is the problem with the failure to install the illuminated sign? It’s a serious thing, because now everyone makes a fool of themselves. Appeals against fines will be plentiful. Nobody listened to our appeals – she underlined – the cars that enter are all unauthorized people. It is also a question of the city’s image. Instead of asking ourselves why so many illegal accesses occur, we should ask ourselves how they occur in the absence of a light signal that can connect to Google Maps as happens for all the other gates”. Reports made and which have been going on for three years: «No one cares, apparently. Or are there other interests?”.
