Carrara is a candidate to host the headquarters of the Police Headquarters: the Council approves Mirabella’s motion (Lista Ferri)

CARRARA – The entire Council voted in favor of the motion of the Lista Ferri councilor Filippo Mirabella, except the mayor Serena Arrighi who abstained, however committing, if the conditions were right, to plead the cause with determination. Abstention motivated by the desire, on the part of the first citizen, not to disrespect the Police Commissioner and Prefect who in these hours are dealing with the issue of the headquarters of the Police Headquarters, the possibility of identifying it in a portion of the Park of the Olive trees in Massa. But the question at this point, after the other evening in the Council in Carrara, arises naturally: what if in the end the headquarters of the Massa and Carrara Police Headquarters were to be built in Carrara? In fact, it is known, reading the news of recent days, that in Massa the discussion on which area to allocate to the headquarters of the Police Headquarters is giving rise to a long trail of controversy. Various solutions had been put in place: from the former Bank of Italy, to the former Intendenza di Finanza, up to a piece of Parco degli Ulivi, the latter hypothesis being harshly contested by the opposition and environmentalists. From here comes the councilor’s motion which highlights how Carrara has in the meantime become, since last January, the provincial capital and therefore with all the paperwork in order to run as a candidate and outlines the possibility of placing the headquarters in the San Martino area, behind the offices of the Justice of the Peace. We remind you that 30 million euros have been made available to the Ministry to find a suitable location at the Police Headquarters. Mirabella in his motion highlights how “Carrara, after 165 years – he declares in the Chamber – could finally have the possibility of being recognized the opportunity to have the seat of an important State institution, such as the Police Headquarters of Massa and Carrara . The area of ​​San Martino behind the headquarters of the Municipal Police and the Justice of the Peace could be the ideal place for its construction – the councilor then makes a series of considerations – the territory of Massa-Carrara has been waiting for years for the construction of the new Police Headquarters as the premises in which members of the police operate daily are inadequate and partly dilapidated; the Government had allocated a sum of 30 million euros for the construction of the new Police Headquarters in the city of Massa but, after months of surrender, the mayor of Massa, lawyer. Francesco Persiani, has not yet managed to find the right territorial location; the Bank of Italy area and the Viale Europa area which had not been deemed suitable had already been identified; during the city council of 8 April 2024, the mayor Francesco Persiani declared that the site chosen by the Ministry of the Interior for the construction of the new police station had been identified in a part of the Ulivi park; the choice of a park and the presence of a highly residential area has led to strong concerns among the population and protests by the council groups of the PD, Fratelli D’Italia, Polo Progressive and the Left, Massa is something else and a dozens of environmental associations; the territorial offices of the State Police have an urgent need to have spaces and places that best suit their needs and that can guarantee better services for all citizens and greater operations for the police”. Following all these premises, Filippo Mirabella proposes, with the favorable vote of all the councillors: “Carrara, the provincial capital, could apply to build the new police headquarters, it would be a real opportunity for our city”.
