Porto Potenza Calcio mourns the passing of its masseur

An entire city in mourning for the passing of Giancarlo Tombolini, masseur and point of reference for Porto Potenza Calcio for over thirty years, but above all a great educator, always loved by the kids. He was 84 years old and his heart stopped beating on Tuesday night, around 1.30 am, in his home in via Bellini, due to a bad illness with which he had been fighting for some time. His name has been inextricably linked to local football. As a young man he had played with the Porto Potenza team until he moved to Sassuolo, working for some time as a worker in the production of ceramics. Some time later he returned to his hometown, because he had found work in the footwear sector. But above all he had become the masseur of Porto Potenza Calcio, following entire generations of young people. And he was a truly charismatic man, so much so that after every winter training he would prepare tea and biscuits for them. “A good person, always helpful, smiling and armed with great patience, especially with the kids who frequented the Porto Potenza football field”, are the words of a fellow citizen on social media. Condolence was also expressed by Fabio Sacconi, president of Porto Potenza Calcio. “On Saturday we will have the derby against Union Picena – he states – and we will ask the federation to play with mourning on our arms. Giancarlo was a figure who united the city. He raised me, who was over fifty, until several players still on the team. Despite his illness, he still stopped by the pitch to give us advice.” Tombolini leaves behind his wife Elena (former teacher of the village nursery school) and his children Antonio and Francesca. The funeral this morning, at 10, in Corpus Christi church.
