Vito Palmieri presents “La Seconda Vita” at the Paolillo Multiplex in Barletta

A story steeped in social cinema and feelings that of Anna (the excellent Marianna Fontana) protagonist of “The second life”, the latest work by the director from Bitonto Vito Palmieri who will meet the public on Friday 19 April Politeama Paolillo of Barletta at the end of the screening of the film scheduled for 6.30 pm. Prof. Luigi Pannarale, Professor of Sociology of Law at the Aldo Moro University of Bari, will participate in the conversation (8.00 pm).

Presented at the 2024 edition of Bif&st, released in Italian cinemas from 4 April, “The Second Life”, written by Vito Palmieri in tandem with Michele Santeramo, includes a calendar of special screenings in prisons, in perfect coherence with the project strongly supported by filmmaker, always inclined towards the concrete culture of change and integration.
“The film tells an internal journey to discover oneself and one’s soul” we read in the director’s notes. Anna, a former prisoner with a dark past, decides to move to a small provincial town to return to living her daily life freely, but her path will still be hindered by her past, by prejudices, by a sort of collective obstacle which, unlike of the sentence already served, will make her existence and her new relationships difficult.

Made with the involvement of the Dozza-Rocco d’Amato prison in Bologna and the Volterra prison, filmed in Bologna, Rimini and Peccioli (Pisa), “The Second Life” is produced by Articolture in collaboration with Rai Cinema and distributed from Articolture and Lo Scrittoio (supported by the Emilia Romagna Film Commission). The inclusion of people in prison and criminal mediators in the processing of the work and in its dissemination is essential, to promote restorative justice as an alternative and complementary vision of effective social reintegration.

In the cast: Marianna Fontana, Giovanni Anzaldo, Lorenzo Gioielli, Nicola Rignanese, Demetra Avincola, Cristiana Raggi, Eliana Lupo.

Director and screenwriter: Vito Palmieri, who graduated from the Dams in Bologna in filmology, immediately obtained praise with the short “Tana libera tutti” nominated for the David di Donatello. With his debut film “See you in Texas” he won the Shanghai Audience Grand Prix in 2015, followed by recognition from the Toronto Film Festival with the short “Matilde”, already presented at the Berlinale Generation K+, and the MigrArti award 2018 with the World Championship in the Square.

The excellent Marianna Fontana, Angela’s twin sister, boasts in her filmography: “Indivisibili” by Edoardo De Angelis, “Capri-Revolution” by Mario Martone, “I Fratelli De Filippo” by Sergio Rubini, “The Last Time We Are were children” by Claudio Bisio.
In addition to the photography of the award-winning Michele D’Attanasio (David di Donatello winner with “Freaks Out”, “Veloce come il vento”, “Zinanà”), the film involves Corrado Iuvara (editing), Francesca and Roberta Vecchi (costumes), Ilenia Burtoli (scenes), Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari and Cristina Donà (the latter three times Targa Tenco) for the musical artistic contribution with the song “La Vela”.
