Modica – The announcement is from the mayor Maria Monisteri: “The notable influx of tourists and visitors which already in these days – despite a ‘suspended spring’ – makes our city full of people especially in its historic center, has induced our Administration , to implement a series of measures to regulate traffic specifically in relation to the tourism sector. An action which, in fact, regulates circulation and promotes the reduction of CO2 emissions in the city centre, while still guaranteeing efficient mobility in compliance with environmental constraints, avoiding harmful congestion and encouraging pedestrian mobility. After having already decided on the transit ban for heavy vehicles on Corso Umberto – except those used for loading and unloading goods – the ban has also been extended to tourist and scheduled buses. Only so-called ‘urban’ buses and those carrying commuter students will be allowed to transit in the centre.
The buses will end in Piazzale Falcone Borsellino and then return to Via Modica Ragusa. The tourist buses coming from via Modica Ragusa will terminate in piazzale Falcone Borsellino for the sole purpose of unloading passengers and then will move to the car parks in via Piano Ceci, an area adjacent to the cemetery. The tourist buses coming from Scicli or Modica Sorda will continue to Piazzale Gramsci, in Viale Medaglie d’Oro, where they will stop and stop.”
