On May 5th inauguration of the restored Machaby Sanctuary

PTo celebrate the conclusion of the long works, the bishop of Aosta Msgr. Lovignana will celebrate a Holy Mass

The inauguration of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Snows of Machaby, in Arnad, which is the subject of long structural and architectural restoration works, will be held on Sunday 5 May.

The religious building dates back to 1687, although its origins date back to the fourteenth century. In 2021, an important restoration project began, supported financially by the CRT Foundation (with a contribution of 225,000 Euros), by the CEI through the 8×1000 funds (with 310,500 Euros), by the Region (which allocated 300,000 Euros) and by Municipality of Arnad (30,000 Euros). The work finished last year. On 5 May the bishop of Aosta, Msgr. Franco Lovignana will hold a Eucharistic celebration at 10 am. Other Masses will be celebrated at 8 am and 9 am.

The restoration involved the church and the bell tower. The roofs have been redone and consolidated, the plaster has been restored and all the stone materials (columns, frames, shelves, jambs, pulpit, balustrades and so on) have been restored. The same intervention was carried out on the old clocks, on the ornaments, on the bell tower and on the flooring of the portico. The intervention on the facade also allowed the ancient eighteenth-century paintings to be brought to light. In addition, informative panels and benches have been added to the square in front of the sanctuary and toilets have been created for people with disabilities.

The Diocese of Aosta explains that, as an important aspect of the CRT Foundation’s announcement, a fundraising activity was also organized with the Municipality of Arnad and the Lo Doil association which began last August and ended in December . «It made it possible to raise the important sum of €26,700 to which other funds from the CRT Foundation will be added, which will allow the continuation of the interventions to enhance the Sanctuary, including the restoration of the paintings and plasters of the chapels of the Mysteries of the Rosary, whose construction site will open in the next few weeks.”
