Design: the Salone del Mobile is open. Business but also culture

The event kicks off today at Rho Fiera. Exhibitions, installations and routes suitable for everyone

Rho – It started today, Tuesday April 16, there 62nd edition of the Salone del Mobile. One of the most anticipated and followed design events in northern Italy and the world which, this year, promises to combine design innovations with a renewal of how the fair itself is conceived.

Almost 2000 (1935) exhibitors – coming from 35 countries around the world -, for 34 square kilometers of surfacedivided this time not in a “museum” way but aligned around a single path that takes the “length” of the Show from the kilometers of last year to just 600 meters Today.

At the ribbon cutting were government representatives such as the Minister of Tourism Daniela Santanchè and that of Made in Italy Adolfo Ursoof the region like the Lombard principal Attilio Fontanathe mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala and the mayor of Rho, Andrea Orlandi.

The Salone del Mobile is reconfirmed as the place where, as the mayor of Milan never fails to underline, “the commercial offer merges with the cultural one – and spreads not only to Rho but throughout the city of Milan which – it opens the doors of museums, institutional headquarters, homes, in short it opens the doors and ensures that anyone who comes is welcome”.

“This event is a source of prestige for our territory, but above all it is the demonstration of how the design furniture sector is always of a national and international level”. President Fontana begins by recalling the cultural importance of the show as the first major event to have reopened its doors after the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 period. “This is a merit you will never lose”. A thought also shared by the president of the Salone del Mobile, Maria Porro.

A reopening that was fundamental to relaunching the local and national economy of the area. Minister Santanchè underlines this: “The entire tourism sector, of all the fairs, attracts an added value of 10 billion euros every year, and generates an added value of almost 5 billion, without forgetting, obviously, the people whose work generated those revenues. The companies present here at the show are excellent.”

The 2024 edition therefore starts in the name of enthusiasm and attendance (often international) with important numbers. We are waiting to see the effects this will have on the territory of Milan and its metropolitan city. Of the expensive rents we have already talked aboutawaiting any further developments.
