ROSE GARDEN. Around 10 thousand attendances in four days, ten hotel structures involved and 92 participating teams. These are the numbers of the twenty-sixth edition of “Spiagge d’Abruzzo cup”, the international youth football tournament organized by the president’s As Roseto Calcio Camillo Cerasi which will take place from 25 to 28 April.
There are four fields involved (Patrizi field, Fonte dell’Olmo stadium, Cologna Spiaggia field and Scerne field), for a tournament that has now become a point of reference for youth football, but also the most important reservoir of tourist presences in Roseto in a period of deseasonalization.
«I thank all my collaborators who allow me to keep this tournament alive, one of the longest-running in Italy», comments Cerasi, «when we started in 1997 four youth football tournaments were played throughout the country, while now there are more than 100 This year we decided to add one day, four instead of three, and perhaps for this reason there are fewer teams compared to last year.” Among the 92 participating teams, divided into six categories and made up of young footballers aged 8 to 13, there are two from Ukraine, and thanks to the twinning of the Municipality of Roseto also one from Makarska (Croatia) and another from La Louviere, city in Belgium. «As regards the hotel facilities, we involved those available in Roseto», continues Cerasi, «but also one in Giulianova and two in Pineto». The inaugural ceremony will take place on April 25th at 11.30am in the Fonte dell’Olmo stadium, while the finals and awards ceremony will take place on April 28th at the Patrizi field. For some years, however, the Municipality has not given any contribution to As Roseto Calcio for the organization of the tournament. «The last time we had contributions, even substantial ones, during the Pavone administration», recalls Cerasi, «then the first year of Di Girolamo something, and that’s it. We don’t expect much, but we move forward anyway.” The goal is to reach the thirtieth edition. «Age is advancing», concludes Cerasi, «and at times the enthusiasm wanes, but I am satisfied because the organizational core has always been the same for many years. Finally, for a few years we have been collaborating with the Sport in tour company, which provides the referees and all the technical assistance”.
