The project has officially ended “The city that doesn’t exist” promoted by Eridano Social cooperative Of Toasts and from Urban Movements Laboratorydedicated to a group of very young people from schools in the province, created through the contribution of the primary school teacher and singer-songwriter Paola Petrosilloof the musician Giancarlo Pagliaraof the shipwright and president of the Remuri rowers Franco Romanelli and the singer-songwriter Vincenzo Maggiore.

Last weekend saw the little protagonists of this adventure go on stage set up in the same urban laboratory to sing the unreleased song dedicated to the “Brindisi that no longer exists”, written with the help of the project’s representatives. The song will be part of a forthcoming album.

A very strong cultural operation to enhance the bond of the little ones with their homeland, to stimulate creativity and a relational spirit, in line with the objectives pursued by the Eridano Social Cooperative.

The project “The city that doesn’t exist” – explains the president of the cooperative Francesco Parisi it is an important stage in the process through which we are shifting the axis from welfare to community welfare. The Movimenti urban laboratory, which has always been attentive to the dynamics of the Sant’Elia district of Brindisi, has actively supported this splendid initiative born “from below” thanks to the representatives who have guided the young people in recent months. I am sure that the proposed model will bring important results in the coming months.”

The proposed route was inspired by the precious testimony of Romanelli from Brindisi, a tireless narrator of local history, who guided the children to discover a story that is too often forgotten. In the first part of the project, the children discovered the most evocative traits of maritime culture and, at the same time, they approached the rhythmic dimension of music and the “song” understood as a musical form identified by precise elements. This was followed by an experience in a rowing boat, aboard one of the boats of the ASD Vogatori Remuri Brindisi. The workshop activity, conducted by Paola Petrosillo together with the musician Giancarlo Pagliara, led the children to reflect on the historical and anthropological connection between past and present, between the ancient and the new.

This project is an act of love towards children and towards our city – commented Paola Petrosillo – it is not easy to build continuous and deep experiences; we hope that this is only the first step in the direction of a rediscovery of identity and the memory that belongs to us, the only prerequisite for launching ourselves towards the future. At the end of this experience the awareness remains: everyone can learn to sing more or less in tune, everyone can learn to go in time, but few manage to convey something”.

From the beginning we liked the idea that a music laboratory could arise from an idea, from a content, from a curiosity – concluded one of the representatives of the Movimenti urban laboratory Giancarlo Pagliara – specifically, the inspiration was provided by a poem in dialect by Franco which describes the “Sciabiche” neighborhood with particular effectiveness and accuracy of detail. During our meetings we talked about rhythm, melody, but the most beautiful thing is the maturity shown by the children. They said and wrote things of surprising depth, revealing their desire to love and enhance their city”.ù

Romanelli himself spoke on stage, an authentic living heritage of the city, visibly moved.

There was no shortage of thanks for those who, in various capacities, gave their contribution: Dario Rovere, Danilo Perrone, Silvio Trisciuzzi, Valerio Daniele, Elisabetta Nuzzo and Simona Celiberti.
