Milan, 16 April. (Adnkronos Salute) – “The Def 2024 confirms that, in line with what has happened in the last 15 years, public health does not represent a priority at all, not even for the current Government. In this sense, the public communication of the Executive continues to focus exclusively on health spending in absolute terms, which since 2012 has (almost) always increased compared to the previous year, and not on the health spending/GDP ratio, which on the contrary documents a slow and inexorable decline, placing Italy first among the countries poor of Europe and last of the G7 of which our country will hold the presidency in 2024”. This was declared by Gimbe President Nino Cartabellotta, in an independent analysis conducted by the Foundation on the 2024 Economic and Financial Document.

“The National Health Service relaunch plan developed by the Gimbe Foundation – he recalls – proposes to progressively increase health spending, with the aim of aligning it to the average of European countries by 2030, in order to guarantee the relaunch of health personnel policies , the uniform provision of essential levels of care and equitable access to innovations”. Instead, “considering that in 2022 the gap in per capita health spending with the average of European countries exceeded 47 billion in total – recalls Cartabellotta – the Def 2024 does not lay the foundations at all for progressively reducing it: on the contrary, the health spending ratio /GDP falls to 6.3% in 2025-26 and 6.2% in 2027, values lower than 2019 (6.4%), confirming that the pandemic has taught us absolutely nothing.”

“The persistent public defunding will increase the distance with European countries and will definitively sink the NHS – predicts the president of Gimbe – compromising the constitutional right to protect people’s health, in particular for the less well-off classes and for residents in the southern regions “.
