Bathing ban in Messina, here are all the sections affected

Following publication in the Official Journal of Sicilian region of the decree of the Regional Department of Health, Department of Health Activities and Epidemiological Observatory with which the dates of 1 May and 31 October were set for the beginning and end of the bathing season, the mayor Federico Basile has issued ordinance no. 56 of 11 April 2024, which regulates the stretches of sea and coast in the municipal territory where bathing is not permitted.

The Environmental Services department of the Municipality of Messina is responsible for placing metal signs to indicate prohibitions at the beginning of all access roads, whether pedestrian or vehicular, to all the stretches of sea involved and for removing those previously placed indicating the prohibition of bathing in areas not included in this provision .

The traits affected

The stretches of sea and coastline permanently not used for bathing due to pollution are those between the mouth of the Larderia stream and the Portalegni stream, for a stretch of 6400 metres; from 50 meters south from the former Regina Margherita hospital to 100 meters north from the mouth of the Annunziata stream, for 630 metres; and from 100 meters south to 100 meters north of the Lago Piccolo di Torre Faro canal for a stretch of 200 metres.

Furthermore, the port areas between the Portalegni stream and via Brasile, for 8950 metres, are not suitable for swimming; between the south side of the port of Tremestieri up to the Larderia stream, for 1400 metres. Finally, the bathing ban also applies to the stretches of sea and coast affected by the outlets of canals, rivers, streams and purifiers, from the mouth of the Giampilieri stream to 50 meters north of it, for a stretch of 50 metres; and from 100 meters east of the Acqualadroni purifier to 100 meters west for 200 metres.
