From the typical temperatures of June to those below the average for the period: a sudden change in temperature is predicted over Italy and Umbria, starting from Tuesday afternoon, when a mass of cold air present over central Europe, fed by a flow coming from the Arctic, it will cross the Alps. According to what Michele Cavallucci, of the Perugia Meteo staff, reports, intense south-westerly winds are expected which, in addition to causing temperatures to suddenly drop, could also generate showers and thunderstorms. And, according to Umbria Meteo, the situation will not improve until at least April 25th.

The rush

On Tuesday morning temperatures in Umbria still showed anomalous levels, as demonstrated by the minimum of 11.2°C recorded in Castelluccio di Norcia. Maximum temperatures even above 30 degrees, recorded over the weekend, set a 50-year record. But within 12 hours these same temperatures will be “completely subverted”, underlines Cavallucci, with the return, first of all, “to temperatures within the averages of the period, and from Wednesday with a further drop to values below the averages”. According to Umbria Meteo, the drop in temperatures will also be notable: the maximum temperatures will be up to 15°C lower than the values of the weekend. And temperatures will remain below average until at least April 25. “In practice we will go from a summer climate to a late winter/early spring climate.” A situation that is especially worrying due to the risk of frost, which would be disastrous for the vegetation. Again according to Umbria Meteo, the probabilities are currently not high thanks to the often presence of clouds, precipitation and wind, but the evolution will need to be monitored.
