The construction site for the Tremezzina Variation stops on Lake Como. The 390 million maxi project is in the balance

The most important project on Lake Como, worth over 390 million euros, has come to a standstill. The news exploded on the front page of La Provincia this morning in a long and detailed article by Marco Palumbo: work on the Tremezzina Variation has essentially stopped. Technically also suspended at the Colonno portal after the same thing had already happened some time ago at the other end of the work, in Griante. A decision by the Consortium of companies that won the contract, justified by Anas and already also by the Prefecture with the explosion of the prices of materials and therefore of the total cost of the construction site.

It goes without saying that the information – shocking for the impact it could have on the maxi work – immediately proved to be very well founded, so much so that – inevitably consulted this morning to seek confirmation and further details – no official statements came from Anas but informal confirmations with respect to what is published. From what was possible to reconstruct, the communication was made official yesterday during a coordination table held in the Prefecture in Como.

In the next few hours it is likely that some official position will arrive, first of all from the mayors and local authorities involved (see the provincial administration first and foremost) but it is possible that in the next few hours the Prefecture of Como will make itself heard (which, also when asked this morning, it has postponed any communication for now, ed).

The situation, today, could have devastating consequences: the Tremezzina variant represents a strategic work for the territory and for the western shore of Lake Como, today literally suffocated and attacked by unsustainable traffic that crosses villages and towns in an very fragile.

The executive project of the Variante alla Tremezzina, a work contracted for 390 million euros, extends for almost 10 km and involves the localities of Colonno, Sala Comacina, Ossuccio, Lenno, Mezzegra, Tremezzo and Griante, in the province of Como. Among the main works: four single-tube natural tunnels (for a total length of approximately 8.3 km), three viaducts and two junctions (Colono to the south and Griante to the north). The objective of the intervention is to improve the level of service and overall safety of the connections between Como and Menaggio. The variant of the state road 340 “alla Tremezzina” should guarantee, once finished (a total of 7 and a half years of interventions), savings in travel times, greater safety for users, a local economic impact through tourism and will allow a connection easier with Switzerland, with Valtellina and with Val Chiavenna.
